JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER

Location: Queen’s High Preschool

Salary: Salary and conditions based on Consenting


Parties contract with special conditions as set out
by Queen’s High Preschool Committee of
Management.

Qualifications Minimum standards


 Dip Tchg (ECE) / Teacher in Training
Current First Aid Certificate communication with
parents shall be through the supervisor.
Registered or Provisional Teacher

Directly responsible to: Supervisor


- or in their absence the Assistant Supervisor.

Responsible for: In conjunction with the Supervisor


Providing a quality early childhood education and
care programme for children of mixed ages
attending the centre.
Ensuring that this programme meets the holistic
well being of the children and their families using
the centre.

Functional Relationships:
with Supervisor
 Assistant Supervisor, team members and visiting
students.
Members of the Management Committee.
Education, health and specialist support
personnel visiting the centre.
Community Early Childhood services and other
relative organisations.

Key Tasks: In conjunction with Assistant Supervisor to:


Plan, implement and evaluate a quality education
programme based on Te Whariki, New Zealand
Early Childhood Curriculum.

Establish effective working relationships with
centre staff, parents and children and liaise with
the education and early childhood community.
Be responsible for planning for individual children
and the group assigned to each teacher;
evaluation of plans and development of profiles.
Planning time is given to each teacher.
Be accountable for negotiated tasks as requested
by supervisor.
Maintenance of petty cash system.

The Teacher Will Have:


A commitment to quality early childhood
education for all children.
A commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and
the implications of this in their work at the
centre.
An understanding of equity issues.
A responsibility to read, understand and
implement the charter DOPS, minimum
standards and childcare regulations – Policies
and Procedures, Philosophy and Health, Safety
and Environment Policy.
The ability to relate to children and adults in a
responsible and flexible manner.
Positive behaviour management techniques.
Recognition of parents as partners in caring for
children.
Competency with Te Whariki as a working
document.
The ability to work as a team member.
A commitment to ongoing learning.
To be reliable, punctual at all times.
To attend staff meetings.
To implement the list of duties as set by the
supervisor.
