Last night we gathered by the hundreds until four in the morning to protest Republican House members as they attempted to pass SB5, an omnibus anti-choice bill that would dramatically restrict access to basic reproductive care in Texas. Republicans even defeated an amendment that provided an exception in the case of rape or incest. It’s just another example of Republicans in the state of Texas playing politics with the health and lives of women. But all of Texas -- and the rest of the nation -- is watching. In fact, Ann Richard’s daughter Cecile flew into Texas today to celebrate the hard work and dedication that Texans have shown these last four days. And she will stay in Texas, fighting at our side to defeat this bill. We are asking all Democrats in the state of Texas to join Cecile at the Capitol tomorrow. We need to be there all day, as the Senate considers the bill. Midnight tomorrow is our deadline for stopping passage. Please come, stay as long as you can, and wear orange. If you can’t make it to Austin, please donate immediately to fund our rapid response communications and political work. TDP staff has been at the Capitol and on social media around the clock since the citizen filibuster began on Thursday. We will do anything we can to stop these bills, and then hold Republicans accountable for playing politics with women’s lives. Thank you for all that you do. Gilberto Hinojosa Chairman P.S. There’s no time like right now to be a part of the Texas Democratic Party. Last night our House Democratic members fought until four in the morning to forestall passage of these bills in the House. If you missed it, I urge you to watch Rep. Jessica Farrar’s passionate speech on the floor last night.
