Francois Xavier, the daughter of Patrice Breland Sr. and Helene Dease. She married Elzéar Tourond (b. 1858), the son of Joseph Tourond and Josephte Paul, on June 6, 1882 at St. Francois Xavier. Her husband was wounded during the fighting at Batoche and died later on May 14, 1885; age 25. After 1885, she returned to St. François Xavier and remarried to Oliver Robidoux on August 30, 1887. She died there at age 25, on September 7, 1888. After the battle, she has a baby Marie Josephine born February 17, 1885; and a twoyear-old son, Joseph Arthur to care for as they escaped from the Batoche area and went to an area that had been prepared for them near Bellevue (Machinas Mountain). In the support letter with this scrip application Tobie Breland of St. Francois Xavier says that he is the oldest brother of Marguerite Breland and upon the death of Marguerite’s husband he sent his brother Alfred Breland to Batoche for his sister. She came to him with her son Arthur and daughter Marie Josephine. She lived with him until her death when she committed the care of the children to Tobie. Arthur lived with him until he returned to the old homestead and Marie Josephine still lived with him as his daughter.
