PRESS RELEASE His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander in Chief of the UPDF has

made changes in the UPDF as follows: 1 Brig Sam Kavuma, recently graduated from Kenya National Defence College is appointed to Command African Union Regional Task Force. The Task Force is based at Yambio, South Sudan and is tasked to counter atrocities of LRA and their leader Joseph Kony. Brig Kavuma takes over from Brig Dick Prit Olum, who has been appointed to command the Uganda Contingent in Somalia against Al-Shabaab terrorists. Brig Michael Ondoga, who has been Uganda’s Contingent Commander fighting terrorism in order to build a secure, stable and prosperous Somalia, is now appointed Uganda’s Military Attaché at Uganda’s Commission in Kenya. He replaces late Brig Clovis Kalyebara who passed away recently. Brig Ondoga is a graduate of USA War College. Brig Peter Elwelu is posted from 3 Infantry Division Moroto and appointed to command 2 Infantry Division based at Mbarara. Brig Elwelu has previously commanded Uganda’s Contingent in Somalia, in addition to fighting LRA terrorists in DRC, Central Africa and South Sudan. He is a graduate of China National Defence College.



These appointments are a continuous process of the efforts towards professionalism of the UPDF by our Commander in Chief. We congratulate the Commanders upon their new appointments and wish them the best returns in their respective tours of duty.
