MLB FUTURES ALL-STAR GAME


Seattle Mariners minor league pitcher Taijuan Walker and shortstop Brad Miller have been selected to play for the U.S. squad in the 15th
annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game to be played July 14 at Citi Field in New York City (11 a.m. PT/ESPN2, ESPN2 HD and MLB.com,
MLB Network Radio) as part of All-Star weekend.This is Walkers second consecutive selection on the All-Star Futures roster.
Tacoma Rainiers hitting coach Howard Johnson will be part of the U.S. coaching staff.
The Mariners have had 30 selections to the Futures Game since its first beginning in 1999. Three players on the current 25-man roster
played in the Futures Game in the past: Felix Hernandez (2004), Kendrys Morales (2005) and Michael Saunders (2007). Hernandez
(All-Star: 2009, 2011-12; Futures Game: 2004) is one of 99 players to have competed n both the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and the
Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major
League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all fullseason Minor Leagues were eligible to participate.
For the first time, fans will determine the final player on both the U.S. and World Team rosters by casting their votes in the All-Star Sunday
Futures Finalists (#FuturesFinalists) ballot, available exclusively on MLB.com/futuresfinalists and the Club sites. Fans may begin voting
immediately and cast their ballots until Sunday, June 30th at 11:59 p.m. (EDT).
The 5 candidates for the U.S. are: OF Tyler Austin (Trenton/NYY; #VoteAustin); OF Nick Castellanos (Toledo/DET; #VoteCastellanos); 3B
Garin Cecchini (Portland/BOS; #VoteCecchini); OF Courtney Hawkins (Winston-Salem/CWS; #VoteHawkins); and OF Brandon Nimmo
(Savannah/NYM; #VoteNimmo). The players vying for the final roster spot on the World Team are: SS Javier Baez (Dayton/CHI; Puerto
Rico; #VoteBaez); 1B Ji-Man Choi (Jackson/SEA; South Korea; #VoteChoi); SS Carlos Correa (Quad Cities/HOU; Puerto Rico;

RECAP: The Rainiers scored their only run of the game on a RBI single by DH Scott Savastano as
Tacoma lost their 3rd straight game to Las Veags 1-4 on Sunday afternoon. Starter Brandon
Maurer (4.2,7,4,4,3,4) recorded the loss, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits in 4.2 innings. Relievers Brian
Sweeney (3.1,0,0,0,0,3) and Josh Kinney (1.0,0,0,0,0,2) struck out 5, while retiring the final 15
batters faced in order. 3B Nate Tenbrink (2x4) and 1B Rich Poythress (2x4) each recorded multihit games, while Savastano (1x3, RBI, BB) and 2B Robert Andino (1x3) each contributed one of
Tacomas 6 hits.
OF NOTE: Tacoma owns a 2.0-game lead over Colorado Springs in the PCL Pacific Northern
Division. The Rainiers have now owned the top spot in the division for 30 consecutive games. It
marks the longest Tacoma has held that position since holding down first place for 41 consecutive
games, June 29-August 13, 2010. OF Carlos Peguero has recorded 12 RBI over his last 11 games
and 23 in 19 games since June 10. During this 19-game stretch, Peguero is batting .338 (24x71)
with 13 runs scored, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, 23 RBI and 11 walks. OF Abraham Almonte
has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games, batting .292 (14x48) with 9 runs scored, 3 doubles, 2 home
runs and 7 RBI. LHP James Paxton recorded a seasonhigh 11 strikeouts on June 22 vs. Fresno. It
marked his 9th career start recording at least 10 strikeouts (last: 11, 5/13/13 at New Orleans). RHP

RECAP: The Generals scored took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning and scored 3 more runs
in the 7th inning as Jackson held on to defeat Birmingham 5-3 on Sunday. LF Leon Landry (2x3,
RBI, 2 SB), SS Chris Taylor (2x4, R, 2B, RBI, SB), CF James Jones (2x4, RBI) and 1B Steven
Proscia (2x3, R) each recorded 2 of the Generals 10 hits. Starter Roenis Elias (6.0,1,1,1,3,7)
recorded his 4th win of the season, allowing 1 run on 1 hit and striking out 7 in 6.0 innings. RH
Stephen Shackleford (1.1,4,2,2,0,1) allowed 2 runs in the top of the 8th inning, while RH Carson
Smith (1.2,1,0,0,1,3) recorded the final 5 outs to earn his 8th save of the season.
OF NOTE: OF James Jones has hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games, batting .389 (14x36) with 5

RECAP: The Mavericks hit 4 home runs and out-hit the Nuts 16-15, but it wasnt enough as the bullpen allowed 4 runs in the top of the 9th
innings in 13-16 loss to Modesto on Sunday. All 9 starters in the lineup recorded at least 1 hit, including multi-hit games by C David
Villasuso (3x4, 4 R, 2B, HR, RBI, SB), CF Nate Melendres (2x6, R, 2B, RBI, SB), 1B Daniel Paolini (2x4, 3 R, HR, RBI, 2 BB), RF Kevin
Rivers (2x4, 2 R, HR, 5 RBI), DH Patrick Kivlehan (2x5, R, HR, RBI) and SS Anthony Phillips (2x4, R, BB). Starter Cameron Hobson
(3.0,5,6,6,6,3) allowed 6 runs on 5 hits, but didnt figure into the decision. Relievers RH Seon-Gi Kim (1.0,2,3,3,3,0), RH Matt Brazis

Quad Cities 1-4 on Sunday. Starter Victor Sanchez (4.0,5,4,2,0,1,HR) recorded his 3rd loss of the season, allowing 4 runs (2 ER) on 5 hits
over 4.0 innings. RH Joichi Ogando (2.0,0,0,0,2) and RH Richard Vargas (2.0,1,0,0,1,2) combined to hold the River Bandits scoreless
over the final 4.0 innings. CF Jabari Henry (2x3, 2B) recorded the only multi-hit game, while Lara (1x4, R, HR, RBI) recorded the
LumberKings only run.
OF NOTE: INF Taylor Ard has hit safely in 4 of his last 5 games with 4 multi-hit games, batting .474 (9x19) with 1 run scored, 1 home run

RECAP: After allowing 7 runs in the 5th inning the AquaSox rallied with 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to tie the game 9-9, but the
rally fell short as the bullpen allowed a run in the top of the 9th inning as Everett lost 9-10 on Sunday. The loss snapped Everetts 7-game
