LABORATORY ACTIVITY
CHEMICAL BONDS IN SUBSTANCES

This activity is about the type of chemical bond present in a substance based on the substances solubility.
I.)

Objective:
To identify the chemical bond in a substance based on its solubility.

II.)

Materials:
*Naphthalene balls, pulverized

III.)

*Candle chips

*Salt crystals

* 10 test tubes

*Cooking oil (25 cm3)

* Chalk dust

Procedure:
1.) Place 5 cm3 water in each of the five test tubes. In the remaining five test tubes, place 5
cm3 cooking oil.
2.) Dissolve the following substances in both water and cooking oil, naphthalene, iodine,
salt, chalk, candle chips. Observe the solubility of each of the substance in both water
and cooking oil.

IV.)
