Job Description: This internship will consist of assisting staff in production of PR publications; presentation and development of special events; media relations and networking; internal communications and social media. The intern will learn public relations terminology and practices, and skills in internal and external communication strategies. The intern will also have regular meetings with the Development team, to gain insight into the development and fundraising aspects of nonprofit business.

Internship Objectives:
        

Learn how to work with the media Understand concepts of news releases, media advisories, pitch letters, public service announcements, social media Meet with media to learn how to pitch news stories and events Develop professional relationships Gain experience in writing volunteer and donor award nominations Develop interview skills by interviewing program participants Learn the important role that the media plays in advocacy and awareness for the homeless and education of the public Gain an overall understanding of development and fundraising practices within a nonprofit through regular meetings with development officers and staff. Learn communications/marketing strategies and help develop new ideas.

Internship Activities:       Meet weekly with supervisors Brainstorm and execute external and internal communication strategies Read newspapers and become familiar with the local and national media Work on developing stories from start to finish Attend media events, marketing meetings, Write news releases, pitches, social media posts, and more
