- Lesson Activity (45 minutes) 1. Transition -Have students sit on floor in front of me 2. Introduction -Hello class, today we are going to work on kicking a ball. The term kicking means to use the foot to move an object from one point to another. After I have demonstrated how to kick a ball, you will team up with a partner and retrieve a ball from the bin. Kick the ball back and forth between you and your partner. Each person should kick the ball at least 5 times to their partner.

3. Demonstration -Grab a ball -Set ball on ground -Place non kicking foot beside the ball -Lift kicking foot up and show where the instep of the foot is -Show how it will make contact with ball -Emphasize to hit ball with side of foot, not with their shoelaces -Show that when kicking you bend the kicking leg to give it more force. -Barely kick ball to show little tap goes a little ways -Kick the ball a little hard (not too hard) to show that more force makes the ball go farther -Tell students to judge how hard to kick the ball to get it to where their partner is standing. -Tell the students to look at the ball and follow the movement of the ball with their eyes. -Meanwhile, the waist is slightly bent forward until the ball is kicked, and then move waist back straight. -Arms are held slightly raised at sides and move in opposition to kicking leg. 4. Instructions -Have the children get into pairs and grab a ball for them to share. -Have the children stand in front of their partners -Have them each take 10 steps away from each other counting out loud together as a group. 5. Drill -Partner A kicks ball to partner B and he/she reciprocates 6. Conduct Activity -Students kick ball back and forth to each other at their own pace 7. Teachers Job During Activity -The teacher should walk around looking at the students to make sure things dont get out of hand and to help when needed. - Two helping examples) Use the side of your foot, not the front. Place your nonkicking foot near the ball to help keep your balance - Closing activity (10 minutes) 1. Clean-up and put the balls back where they belong 2. Have the children walk laps to cool off for the rest of the time. J. Assessment Activity - Informal assessment. Have the students keep check that each partner kicked the ball 5 times using Checklist handout (information below). - Teacher goes around with the same checklist, but mentally checks if they are doing it right. If not, teacher should give constructive guidance.

K. Accommodations / Success for all - To increase difficulty you can increase the distance, increase the number of kicks or add more people to the group. - To decrease difficulty you can decrease distance or number of kicks. L. Safety concerns (if any) and how you would address each concern - Concern would be ball hitting kids. To minimize the damage, we will use bouncy balls.
