1. Read and translate to portuguese the following document.

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT

J.J. , residing at New York, NY, being of sound mind, do hereby make, publish and declare this to
be my Last Will and Testament and do revoke any and all other Wills and Codicils heretofore
made by me.

I direct payment of my debts, funeral expenses and expenses for administration of my estate.
I give the rest of my estate to my wife, E.J. If she predeceases me, I give the rest of my estate to all
my children, equally, share and share alike.
If any beneficiary shall fail to survive me by 45 days, it shall be deemed that such person shall
have predeceased me.
If neither my wife nor issue survive me, I direct that the rest of my estate be divided into four
equal parts. I give one part to my wife s parents, or the survivor; one part to my mother; one part to my
wife s sister, Jean; and one part to my brother, John.
I appoint my wife Executrix of this will. If she predeceases me, I appoint my friends (a) B.H and
her husband, G, to said office, and (b) as guardian of the person of each of my children. I direct that no
appointee hereunder shall be required to give bond for the faithful performance of the duties of said office.
This Will has been prepared in duplicate, each copy of which has been executed as an original. One of
these executed copies is in my possession and the other is deposited for safekeeping with my
attorney

HOMENS E LOBOS
EXISTEM MOMENTOS em que fico horas a olhar para o meu gato. Com inveja,
sempre com inveja. S Deus sabe o que existe na cabea de um felino. Mas
acompanho as rotinas dele e sei, filosoficamente falando, que ele feliz.
Ns, humanos, seres temporais por excelncia, vivemos aprisionados ideia do
nosso prprio fim. E, como se no bastasse essa terrvel condenao, somos tambm
incapazes de habitar cada momento inteiramente. O presente, em ns, est sempre
carregado de passado e de futuro: do que fomos, das memrias que temos, do
caminho e das escolhas que fizemos; e daquilo que gostaramos de ser, ou ter, ou
fazer. O presente, para ns, no um lugar para estar. uma breve passagem a
caminho de outra breve passagem. Sempre e sempre e sempre at despedida final.
Por isso, aconselho: se quiserem entender a natureza da felicidade, comprem um
gato. E acompanhem a forma como ele cumpre as suas rotinas com entrega contida e
total. Ele no espera nada, ele no deseja nada. A felicidade, para ele, no existe por
adio: de objetos, experincias, lugares. Mas por repetio: ele repete as
experincias que so significativas. E, em cada repetio, existe a certeza da mesma
felicidade.
Um gato ajuda a entender tudo isso. Mas um livro publicado recentemente refora
a ideia. Confesso: comprei o livro sem expectativas numa livraria do aeroporto de
Heathrow, em Londres.(...). O livro de Mark Rowlands uma mistura erudita de
experincia pessoal e reflexo metafsica, em que Nietzsche, Heidegger e Camus tm
participao direta.
Ponto de partida: certo dia, o professor Rowlands leu anncio no jornal. Algum
vendia lobos por US$ 500. Rowlands entrou na aventura. Horas depois, a casa estava
destruda pelo novo hspede, de nome Brenin, que no poupou a moblia e as
cortinas.
Primeira lio: um lobo no um co. E, nos 11 anos seguintes e aps treino
apertado, Brenin foi a companhia do professor. Em casa. Na rua. Em viagem. E at
nas aulas, para espanto de colegas e alunos: enquanto o professor dissertava sobre
Plato e Aristteles, o lobo dormitava ao seu lado. As aulas terminavam com um
uivo.(...).
