No, we dont mean the picture-perfect magazine idea of made. We simply mean something with a personal touch. It can be homemade brownies (and yes we count adding an egg to a mixture as homemade), a personal note in a chair or adding a little touch to one of our products as a centerpiece. All these add up to something you feel good about and show your guests you care.

Simple
The definition of simple is not complicated (how simple is that!) The stigma that entertaining is not simple is the biggest deterrent of using our homes to love on others. Around Her Table

We live in a fast-paced, eat-on-the-run and connect-with each-other online world. Even while we are often in touch with people we love through our phones and computers, we sense a disconnect from the heart and soul of our friends and family. We long for something deeper and more meaningful than a status update or text messagesomething we can find in a face to face connection around our table.
When we open our homes to friends and family and sit across from them over a meal at our table, something spiritual and profoundly meaningful happens. Life slows down.
MELISSA MICHAELS is the creator and writer of one of the most popular decorating blogs on the internet, The Inspired Room (theinspiredroom.net) and on the writing team at (in)courage (incourage.me). Melissa loves to inspire women to love the home they have by sharing simple ideas and inspiration for decorating, homemaking and living a more beautiful and meaningful life. She is also a church planter's wife at Voyage in Washington and a mom to three awesome kids (and mom to two of the cutest pups you will ever see!).

We engage more of our senses, heightening our sense of enjoyment and connection with those around us. Our shared experience is embedded more deeply into our memory. As we slow down together around a table, we listen more intently, hearts and stories are shared rather than broadcasted in an online status, we see real emotion on a face and offer real arms to hug in place of cartoon emoticons and ask more meaningful questions without scrolling down a page for more bitesized nuggets of carefully crafted information. I love to set a beautiful table for others to enjoy. I think creating a peaceful and pretty ambience and experience in my home for guests is part of my God-given love language. Its a gift I really enjoy giving to others. Im not the best cook and never know what to wear to a party, but I hope my guests can relax and enjoy their time around our table in spite of my clothing indecision and preference for taco and dessert bars over fancy dinners. I want to create a special time for others and bless them in the best way I know how. I love creating the setting for real community to take place. We dont have to be an incredible homemaker or plan a complicated menu in order to open our doors and impact those around us. Our style should be a simple and natural reflection of who we really are so we are connecting from a place of authenticity. We can relax and be ourselves! We dont need to impress with skills or talents we dont have, we just need to love on those around us by offering our time and attention in whatever way we are most comfortable. It is the personal experience we share in those moments, the meaningful touch we offer, and the connection we form that makes gathering around the table so powerful and meaningful. One of the first things to put out of your mind when inviting friends and family over for any meal is the idea that everything has to be perfect. Our homes are lived in and grace-soaked. The meaningful part of any get together is time spent asking and listening, shouldering cares and laughing out loudhearing about ball games, remodeling woes and how were walking by faith while running through life. Were in this together and we need to be together to make it! Straighten up, dont clean up. I learned a long time ago that no one is looking at your floor when they come through your door. Your smiling face earns a whole lot of gracebe happy to see your guests and know that a little disarray makes you human and them less intimidated about having you over for dinner the next time! You set the tone in your home. If youre comfortable and relaxed, your guests will feel the same. Try to put all your energy into letting everyone know theyre genuinely welcomed and loved. GET SET! (5 MINUTES BEFORE GUESTS ARRIVE)

Use the Copper Luster Pillar to hold silverware wrapped in napkins, tied with a bit of raffia for a fun touch.

Set the Grace and Gratitude pieces on your table.

Pour the Taco Soup into the Casserole Dish and place the lid on it to keep it warm.

If you have asked guests to bring the garnishes, pour them into the Small Pedestal Bowls (doesnt that look gorgeous!).

Our coffee has a story.

Our current selection of coffee grows in a remote, mountainous region of Hondurasthe Opalaca mountain range. The region produced generations of coffee farmers who were proud of the crops they raised, but they had a big problem. They did not make enough money from their coffee to last from one harvest to the next. Enter a missionary family from the US. Nearly twenty years ago, they moved to Honduras and connected with these farmers. They worked tirelessly to improve both the farming practices and the business practices of these farmers. As a result of this work, the farmers now make 500% more for their harvests, which they invest in building homes and youth programs plus other investments in their local community
