THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
Exodus 20:1-20 And God spake all these words, saying, I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. (1) Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (2) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. (3) Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. (4) Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. (5) Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. (6) Thou shalt not kill. (7) Thou shalt not commit adultery. (8) Thou shalt not steal. (9) Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. (10) Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. Every Christian MUST know and relate to the Ten Commandments as it is the moral code which God Himself wrote down for us in stone. Because of the moral deterioration that we see in the world today, it

2 comes as no surprise that the nations are trying to push the Ten Commandments out of their schools and universities. In some parts of the world, it is even illegal to openly display the Ten Commandments! But whether the world like it or not, it is our responsibility as the body of Christ to continue to uphold the Ten Commandments as Jesus taught us. The Ten Commandments are unique in that it was the only part of Divine Revelation that was ever spoken by God in an audible voice, together with clouds and darkness, thunders and lightnings and the sound of a trumpet. The Ten Commandments were the only words ever written by the finger of God … upon tables of stone. Because God put such honor upon the Ten Commandments, we shall do well if we pay special attention to them. The first four commandments (Ex 20:3-11) consists of our duties to God-the other six (Ex 20:12-17) our duties to our fellow men. The Ten Commandments are perfectly summed up in the following words of the Lord Jesus: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (Matthew 22:37-40) These two commandments goes together. One cannot be without the other. You cannot love the Lord your God with all of your heart, while hating your neighbour … who are made in the image of God. On the other hand, you cannot really love your neighbour as yourself without loving the Lord your God with all of your heart. The Old Testament can be divided in roughly two parts … the law and the prophets. From Genesis to Deuteronomy you will find the law and then from Joshua till Malachi, you will find the prophets. The Law can also be further divided into three parts … the ceremonial law (that includes all the ordinances related to sacrifices, cleansings, feasts, etc.), the judicial/civil law and the moral law (the Ten Commandments). At this point some might be asking the questions: “Why all this talk about the Ten Commandments and the Law? Aren’t we getting a bit legalistic here? Does not the New Testament clearly say that we are not under the Law, but under Grace? Would you bring us again under that heavy yoke of bondage which none has ever been able to bear? Has not the Law been done away with when Christ died on the Cross for us like Colossians 2:14 says?” Let’s answer these questions from Scripture. Let’s turn to Colossians 2 …

3 beginning at verse 13 … it reads: “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross…” It is the Ceremonial Law with all it’s ordinances that has been done away with. We are no longer to keep any Jewish feasts. We are no longer to bring any sacrifices. We are not required to get circumsized. We are no longer to go through any kind of rituals. The Ceremonial Law has been taken away. NOT the MORAL LAW! Even under the New Testament we are still required to worship the Lord alone and to honor our parents. We are NOT free to kill or to commit adultery or to bear false witness! Christ Himself declared: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets : I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” (Matthew 5:17-18). This verse in Matthew 5:17 is proof that the Moral Law is still in force today. Though Christ is said to have fulfilled the law for us, yet it is nowhere said in the Scriptures that he has so fulfilled these TEN LAWS, as to exempt us from the necessity and privilege of being no idolaters, swearers, Sabbathbreakers, disobedient and cruel children, murderers, adulterers, thieves, and corrupt witnesses. The Moral Law is still in force today. Question: “Why did God wrote the Ten Commandments on tables of stone?” Why didn’t God rather wrote the Ten Commandments on a piece of paper or in a book? Why on stone? Answer: “To show us that is of perpetual use throughout all generations.” We will do well therefore to give heed to what is written on stone. They who cast God’s law behind their backs, God will cast their prayers behind His back. Proverbs 28:9 declares: “He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.” As we would have God hear all our words when we pray, so we must hear all His words when He speaks. Some one may ask: “What man is there that can obey all of God’s commandments? Don’t we still sin daily in thought, word and deed? ” It is true that those who are not born again by the the grace of Christ can not keep these commandments like Paul says: … the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be (Romans 8:7) … but he who is truly converted to God, and has Christ dwelling in his heart by faith, can in the letter and in the spirit, do all these things, BECAUSE CHRIST STRENGTHENS him. His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness… (2 Pet 1:3) God already gave us all the means to keep His

And IF any man sin. Those of us who are born again. that we might be justified by faith. Whenever we preach the Gospel. then our preaching is like beating the air. Those who are truly children of God won’t want to sin against Him anyway. and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. if a man use it lawfully. word and deed.” (James 3:2) Where our obedience comes short. but will want to keep His commandments. He will always forgive those who come to Him. If any man offend not in word. He knows the intention of your heart to obey Him in ALL THINGS. we should make use of the Moral Law to show others their sins so that they might realize that they have a problem and that they can flee to Jesus Christ for deliverance. who have the Spirit of God dwelling in their hearts. Please note wat the Apostle John wrote in 1 John 2:1 “My little children. He can run to the Lord Jesus Christ to receive forgiveness for his sins. Knowing this. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ. the same is a perfect man. but for the lawless and disobedient. seeing our sins and filthiness. for murderers of fathers and . but of what use is the moral law to us?” The Ten Commandments is like a mirror to show us our sins. We don’t have to sin daily in thought. Likewise. He enables. that the law is not made for a righteous man.4 commandments. by keeping His commandments. If we don’t use the law in our preaching to show men their guilt and misery. we have an advocate with the Father. Where Christ commands. (1 John 5:3) To keep the commandments of God is not an impossible thing for those who love Him. and able also to bridle the whole body. He does not require of us the impossible. Some might be wondering: “This is all good and well. This is acceptable to Him. so that. Christians are NOT expected to sin anymore. for unholy and profane. we are not perfect yet. He will never drive them away. (Galatians 3:24). It is written: For this is the love of God. have no excuse to sin anymore. This is how you show your love to God. but if a Christian does sin…he does not need to despair. sinners will never go to the Great Physician unless they first realize that they have this problem of sin in their lives. True. God looks at the heart. He says “IF any man sins”. we may be forced to flee to Christ to save us from our sins and from future wrath. we have an advocate with the Father. The Bible says that “in many things we offend all.” (John 6:37). Jesus Christ the righteous”. Jesus said: “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me. these things write I unto you. that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. for the ungodly and for sinners. He does NOT say “WHEN any man sin”. we look up to the Lord Jesus Christ for mercy and pray for pardon through His blood. We know that the law is good. A person will never go to the doctor unless he is convinced that he has a problem. that ye sin not.

but by the law: for I had not known lust. (1 Timothy 1:8-10). Paul preached and said: “By Him (Jesus) all that believe are justified from all things. Christ is become of no effect unto you. whosoever of you are justified by the law. Do not commit adultery. When you look at a woman to lust after her. I have not committed adultery outwardly or inwardly”. you break this command in the spirit. You can ONLY be saved by believing in Jesus. ye are fallen from grace. except the law had said. in your heart! As the Apostle Paul said: For we know that the law is spiritual … (Romans 7:14) The Ten Commandments can be broken in the letter and ALSO in the spirit.” In this case. Take the seventh commandment as an example: Thou shalt not commit adultery. Now if thou commit no adultery. and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. I’m not that bad. Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law. When preaching the law of God to people. said also. Do not kill. yet if thou kill. and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine.” (Acts 13:39). It is only by preaching the law that people will ever be convicted of their sins … for by the law is the knowledge of sin. I’ve never committed adultery. (Romans 7:7) To use the law in our preaching to sinners and to use the law in examining our own lives as a means of sanctification are ways to use the law lawfully. for menstealers. some might respond by saying: “Oh. (Romans 3:28). (Romans 3:20). but to use the law unlawfully is to try to be justified by it. I’ve never killed someone. (Galatians 5:4) You CANNOT earn your salvation by keeping the law. it is important to let that person know that even though you have not broken the law by any outward acts. Thou shalt not covet. (Matthew 5:28). For whoremongers. for manslayers. You only need to break one law to be a transgressor of the law … for he that said. thou art become a . for perjured persons. (Romans 3:20) Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. you break this command in the letter. Some might respond again by saying: “Oh. When you commit the physical act of adultery. even we have believed in Jesus Christ. So the Moral Law goes deeper than just the outward acts … it also judges the intents and thoughts of the heart. from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. for them that defile themselves with mankind. it is good to bring in the law to convict them of sin. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight.5 murderers of mothers. (Galatians 2:16). When preaching to these types of people. you can still break the law by your thoughts. but by the faith of Jesus Christ. I had not known sin. You might say to such a person that you don’t need to break all ten laws to be a law-breaker. that we might be justified by the faith of Christ. I’ve never stolen. for liars.

Remember. (1 John 3:4). Jesus said to his disciples: If ye love me. It is written again: And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him. The son that loves his father will obey him. and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. and he in him… (1 John 3:24) If you wish to go to Heaven. even as I have kept my Father's commandments. “Blessed are they that do his commandments. That the love of God are conditional can be seen from the following two verses and it is interesting to note that it is based upon us keeping His commands! The two verses reads: He that hath my commandments. keep the commandments. we must keep His commandments.6 transgressor of the law. that they may have right to the tree of life . (John 14:15). this does NOT mean that one can go to Heaven just by keeping the Ten Commandments. We show Jesus our love by performing the work He commanded us to do. and will manifest myself to him. we receive of him. Just breaking one law is enough to make you a sinner. Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. we can NOT be justified by the law … but no one went to Heaven without keeping the commandments! Now what does it mean to “keep” the law? To “keep” the moral commandments? You keep the Law of God if you obey them in spirit and in letter … without breaking any part of it. Now. he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father. ye shall abide in my love. I would like to share some Scriptures on why it is important for us to keep the Ten Commandments: Jesus told the young rich ruler: … If thou wilt enter into life. keep my commandments. the keeping of the commandments of God are not optional for you. but before we get into the Ten Commandments themselves. (1 John 3:22) If you want continual fellowship with the Lord Jesus. (Matthew 19:17). and may enter in through the gates into the city. and I will love him. and keepeth them. It is necessary for us to keep the Commandments of God if we want our prayers to be answered! Consider what the Apostle John wrote: And whatsoever we ask. All that I’ve said up until now serves somewhat as an introduction. you will have to keep the commandments of God. because we keep his commandments. and abide in his love.” (Revelation 22:14) . (John 15:10) If we want to stay in the favor of God. (James 2:11). (John 14:21) IF ye keep my commandments.

The Lord Jesus brought us out of the house of bondage by redeeming us from our sins by His most precious blood. We should stand up for Him and confess Him before others. out of Egypt. soul. So now. our devotion. our love. our everything! God should be everything to us. The best way to worship the Lord our God is simply to read His Word and pray to Him and putting into practise what we have been taught. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. We should serve no other but the Lord our God. which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt. then we are called idolaters. Let us go through each of the Ten Commandments one by one and let us examine ourselves as we go along so that we can see whether we live up to the standard whereby God will judge the world one day. out of the house of bondage and He . mind and strength. since He lives for ever to make intercession for them (Hebrews 7:25). but God. we should not be judged (1 Corinthians 11:31). God desires obedience more than sacrifice… Take another look at verse 2. He is our reason for living! He is to be our fountain of happiness and joy and if we seek our happiness in anything else. Hereby we know that the Lord is OUR God and that we have an interest in Him. The LORD began the Ten Commandments by saying: “I am the LORD THY God”. The LORD our God is a God of DELIVERANCE! He is mighty and able to save! It is written elsewhere in the Scriptures that our LORD Jesus Christ is able to save those to the uttermost that come to God by Him. out of the house of bondage. our obedience. Can you see what I see? I am the LORD thy God. Praise the Lord for having the opportunity to deal with these things now. The Lord promised us that … if we would judge ourselves. let us begin with … THE FIRST COMMANDMENT: (Exodus 20:2-3) I am the LORD thy God. Jesus Christ is able to set you free from your addictions! Jesus Christ is able to set you free from your sins! Jesus Christ is able to deliver you from Hell! And more than that. The best proof of having an interest in God is when you stand up for His interest.7 It is clear from these few Scriptures that the keeping of the Commandments of God are of great importance to us. our service. We owe Him our life. We should fear Him and be full of awe of His majesty and have a supreme reverence for His authority and a desire for His glory. the Israelites. We should earnestly seek after Him and rejoice in Him and have a holy zeal for Him and His cause. He should be ALL to us. out of the house of bondage. which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt. He not only created us … but also bought us by His blood! Therefore we are doubly His! He has all the right to own us and to rule over us. HE IS MOST WILLING TO DO SO! This is the God we serve! He took His people. We should love the Lord OUR God with all our heart.

good things. or friends. Those who are selfish and disobedient to God are also idolaters. Jesus Christ will NEVER push you away IF you would only come to Him. What are you living for? What is your god? To what is your life devoted to? I fear that there might be more idolaters among us than we are aware of. If you give anything that love and service which are due to the Lord alone. pleasure. he is an idolater for he refuse to give to God that which is due to Him. Atheists are guilty of breaking this commandment. then that thing is your “god” whether it be self. We must be careful not to take more delight in any other thing than in God . is to make it a god. There is no God. For men shall be lovers of their own selves … lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. fame. Now let’s continue with the rest of the first commandment… The first commandment forbids idolatry of all kinds. Sadly.8 can do that for you too! He can take you out of your bondage too! Hallelujah! If you are not saved at this moment … know this that it is NOT because of any unwillingness on God’s part … but because of your refusal to come to Jesus to be saved from sin. how many are guilty of this sin of idolatry? This is one of the signs of the times. The Lord Jesus should always be your First Love and have the supreme place of affection in your heart.” (2 Timothy 3:1-2.. Oh. is to make it a god. The Word of God has the following to say of atheists: “The fool hath said in his heart. If you love your pleasures more than you love God. We may take comfort in them. many put their trust in riches and make money their god! To love any thing more than God. gold. It is a foolish thing to trust in them. we make riches our god. whereby we know that we are living in the last days. It is a dangerous thing to take more . They live for themselves instead of living to God.” (Psalm 14:1) Those who follow or serve any other god than the God of the Bible are idolaters. Whether it be food. If you love ANYTHING more than God. Read it sometime. even lawful.4). He promised that in John 6:37. but we must not put our confidence in them. then that thing is your god. To trust in anything more than God. entertainment or even your job … NONE of that should be regarded higher than the Lord. If a person is willingly ignorant of God and His will. then you are an idolater. Remember. This commandment condemns all other religions in the world.. If we trust in our riches. The Bible says “that in the last days perilous times shall come.

and hate not his father. then you are guilty of the sin of idolatry … giving that love and devotion to something or someone else that is due to God alone. no. This is to make an idol of a child. The warnings of Scriptures are clear on this issue: “Be not deceived … no idolaters … shall inherit the kingdom of God. and delight more in them than in God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Let us be careful not to break this first one of the Ten Commandments. One writer put it this way: “They think of their children.” (1 John 5:21) THE SECOND COMMANDMENT: (Exodus 20:4-6) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image. and mother. you should still love your parents. God will take away the jewel. (1 Corinthians 10:14) “Little children. but only put Jesus higher! Amen. yea. and brethren. no. and his own life also. Thus God is often provoked to take away our children. To set up an image to represent God. No. is insulting to Him. and children. And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me. If we love the jewel more than him that gave it. flee from idolatry. they grieve more for the loss of their first-born. … my dearly beloved. keep yourselves from idols. This verse is NOT saying that you should love them less … no. and to set it in God’s room. wife and children. Idolaters … shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone … (Revelation 21:8) So. or that is in the earth beneath. this only means that your love to them should almost look like hate in comparison with your love to the Lord Jesus. Image-worship are forbidden in this commandment.9 delight in a creature than in the Creator. Jesus Christ should be your First Love … He should be your ALL … if He is not. visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me. and wife. and keep my commandments. Amen. that our love may return to him again. or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them.” (Luke 14:26) Now this verse does NOT mean you should hate your parents and your wife and children like you would hate sin. than for the loss of their first love. and sisters.” Jesus said: “If any man come to me. How can the infinite God be respresented by that which is finite? How can the living God be represented by that which is without life? How can the Maker of all . nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God. or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above. he cannot be my disciple.

All false religions fall under this category. or depended upon. Will-worship is self-imposed religion. The Roman Catholic Church justify their image-worship by omitting this second commandment from the Ten Commandments and by dividing the tenth commandment into two to keep up the number.” (2 Corinthians 5:15) Colossians 2:23 talks about “will-worship”: Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will-worship. and rose again. who is blessed forever…” (Romans 1:25) Let us remember that Jesus “died for all. but unto him which died for them. People who are stuck in false religion has a certain image in their mind as to how God should be worshiped and approached. Many people are selfish and live only for themselves. feared. and humility. what about the image that you see every morning in the mirror? Many people in the West worship the image they saw in their mirrors each morning. that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves. Imageworship are highly disgusting to God and all those who take part in image-worship make themselves disgusting to God. Let me give an . and neglecting of the body. delighted in. but to make an image for the intent to worship it is definitely wrong. Whatever is loved.10 things be represented by a thing which is made? It is an insult to God to represent Him by a created thing. They worship that image and become slaves to that false religion. is as if a woman should say she keeps company with another man to put her in mind of her husband. Many who claim to be Christians fashion certain images in their mind and imagination about God that are not necessarily true. more than God. They that make images for worship “are like unto them. that we make a god of. This is a breach of this commandment … by witholding that delight and love from God which is due to Him alone. We sin against this commandment. so is every one that trusteth in them. we don’t worship images! The people of the East might still bow down to images. This corruption of the word of God by the Roman Catholic Church shows clearly that it is a false church! For Roman Catholics to say that they must make use of an image to put them in mind of God. not in any honor to the satisfying of the flesh. The mere making of an image is not wrong. but we don’t!” Well. These are the people of whom it is written that they “… worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator.” (Psalm 115:8) People in the West might say: “Oh well. when we give that glory to any creature which is due to God only.

In your day-to-day dealings with the world you will also frequently encounter someone who takes God’s Name in vain.’ Titus 1: 16. You might respond to such a person like follows: “Excuse me. They created their own image about God in their minds that is not true and accurate according to the Bible. Any reference that you make to Deity without the due respect and honor is to take the Name of God in vain. is there a revival going on here? I hear you’re talking about my Lord. Biblically. But a few years down the line. sir. God.11 example: There are people who believe that God is a loving God and therefore He will not punish them for their sins or throw anybody into hell. the Name of God can include any reference to Deity as Lord. and so on. I would like to get involved here. Let us not fall into this trap. Holy. There is a name for this … Hypocrisy! How many are guilty of this? Jesus Christ said: "Why call ye Me. On the TV and in the movies you will frequently hear God’s Name taken in vain by expressions like these: “Oh my God! Oh. The Third commandment forbids any profane and idle utterance of the name of God. but in works they deny him. and do not the things which I say?" (Luke 6:46). Lord. THE THIRD COMMANDMENT: (Exodus 20:7) Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain. but stop taking Jesus Christ. but let us read our Bibles so that we can have the right picture of Who God really is. for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. For example when people marry. but dishonor Him by their lives (Matthew 15:8-9). they promise and vow to God that they will be faithful to each other until “death do us part”. They worship that image and will protest and criticise anyone who mentions anything about Hell or Judgment Day or about the Holiness and Justice of God. May it NOT be said of us that ‘They profess that they know God. All-mighty and any of His characteristics or attributes. Muslims get very upset when someone speaks bad about their prophet and shall we Christians sit silently with our mouths shut when someone uses Jesus Christ’s Name as a swear-word?!?!?! God forbid! Even so-called Christians takes God’s Name in vain when they honor Him with their mouths.” Or you might say something like: “Please take Saddam Hussein’s name in vain or Hitler’s name in vain. Jesus Christ! Or Holy this and holy that!”. Lord. This is one example of where God’s Name is taken in vain. Jesus. my Lord’s Name in vain!” We need to speak up for our Lord in situations like these. some divorce and break their . Christ. Many people take God’s Name in vain by covenant-breaking and promise-breaking.

Biblically. stealing. the Sabbath was from Friday-evening at sunset until Saturday-evening at sunset. they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. Jesus said “That every idle word that men shall speak. May we always remember this! THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT: (Exodus 20:8-11) Remember the sabbath day. thou. but our hearts should be in them. you can do away with all. then the rest of the Ten Commandments does also not apply to us. For some reason. and hallowed it. nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth. lie and so on … then we are also supposed to keep the Sabbath. to keep it holy. Others say again that the Sabbath moved from Saturday to Sunday. Oh my God” without any due consideration and reverance and Godly fear. nor thy daughter. lying and so on.12 covenant. Some reason that the Sabbath has been done away with and that we are no longer supposed to keep the Sabbath. nor thy cattle. Some quote Luke 16:16 to prove that the Sabbath does not apply to us anymore. steal. we must be slow to speak (Eccl 5:2) and realize with Whom we have to do. This is to take God’s Name in vain! This is a terrible sin! Romans 1:31-32 declares that covenant-breakers are worthy of death! Many people take God’s Name in vain by using His Name lightly and carelessly. Let’s have a look at ten of the most common objections against the Sabbath and see whether they are valid or not according to the Scriptures: 1. thy manservant. Then we are free to break the commandments by committing murder. and every man presseth into . Some object against the keeping of the Sabbath by saying that the Sabbath was only given to Israel and therefore does not apply to us Gentiles. adultery. We are actually mocking God by speaking to Him with our lips while our hearts are far from Him. Six days shalt thou labor. If you can do away with one of the Ten Commandments. nor thy maidservant. nor thy son. and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work. Jesus said in that verse that “The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached. If this is so. and all that in them is. When we pray. and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day. Our private devotions should not be formal and mechanical. Christians these days have a big problem with the Sabbath. This CANNOT BE! Since we as Gentiles are not supposed to kill. the sea. Let us beware of this sin. Many say in their prayers: “Oh God.” (Matthew 12:36).

That’s all. where prayer was wont to be made. and spake unto the women which resorted thither. Paul went to the synagogue every Sabbath to preach and to reason with the Jews and Greeks (Acts 13:14. One writer put it this way while commenting on Hebrews 4:9: “The truth is.” It seems as if the early Christians also had their prayer meetings on the Sabbath. 17:2). Some might respond by saying that nowhere in the New Testament is there a command to keep the Sabbath. .
