, V8P 3J1 250-388-4045 or 250-881-4424 July 25th, 2013 Prospective administrator / school board official, I am writing to offer my services for a special education or autism specialty position in your school district. My recently completed Masters degree in Special Education with a focus in Autism and Developmental Disabilities, 10 years of alternative high school experience at Pacific Secondary, and my 25 years working with adolescents would enable me to fulfill this position. I also have a son with autism, which would give me a unique advantage in understanding the needs of both parents and teachers when developing plans and suggesting strategies for these students. I am determined to further my career in teaching by taking on a district position with more responsibilities, working with other schools staff members and parents, while facilitating these students in a proactive, supportive, and collaborative way. I have just completed my Masters in Special Education with a focus in Autism and Developmental Disabilities. My recently acquired knowledge of those with these learning challenges, as well as strategies like functional assessments, positive behaviour support plans, I.E.P. development, identifying functions of behaviour, augmented and alternative communication methods, and various others would be important assets for this position. I would also be determined to work hard with these students, families, and their support workers, along with administrators, teachers, and educational assistants to ensure a goodness of fit in plans for these students to be carried out in the school, and at home as well if applicable. As detailed in my resume, I have a vast amount of experience working with at risk students at Pacific Secondary, most of which have some sort of learning deficiencies, anxieties, or other challenges. I also taught two students while at Pacific who had autism. I feel like I would be a great fit for your district now, having seven years experience working with my son with autism at home, three years as the case manager for intensive behaviour students, as well as the knowledge gained from my Masters degree in this area at U.B.C.. I have always been a conscientious teacher, and have developed the reputation as being reliable, hardworking, trustworthy, and likable. I am also regularly attending professional development opportunities to further my knowledge in autism, developmental and other learning disabilities, as well as learning about the recent developments in effective teaching strategies, interventions, and theories. Finally, I have been a high level basketball official for the last 25 years, giving me a firm, fair, & friendly approach to dealing with athletes, coaches, & parents, while, at the same time, having to deal with adversity, confrontation, and problem solving in a positive way. I would be sure to employ these qualities in a new position in your district as well. In closing, I firmly believe that I would be an excellent addition to your school districts team, if given the opportunity. I would be happy to attend an interview at your convenience, and can be reached at 250-388-4045 or 250-474-2505 ext 257. Thank you for your attention and consideration in this matter. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely yours,

Jamie Clegg
