Lie on your back with the right leg straight and the left knee bent with the left foot flat on the floor. Brace the lower abdomen and contract the gluteal (buttock) muscles. Press through the heel of the left foot to lift the pelvis and lower extremity as one unit. At the top of the contraction, the shoulder, hip and ankle should line up (arrow).
