Wind developers come to towns like ours and tell us:
Wind turbines are a great source of energy --They aren’t. You won’t hear them --- You will. Your property value won’t decline --- It will, but no one will want to buy your house anyway.
Here are the facts1:
Wind power is variable, unreliable, and cannot be stored. Wind power is able to replace very little, if any, conventional generating capacity. It cannot replace base load generation. Wind turbines generate a wide range of noises and vibration, day and night, that cause loss of sleep, headaches, tinnitus, irritability, dizziness, nausea, and other symptoms in people who live near them. Wind turbines raise noise levels to a degree that is incompatible with the rural environment in which they are typically sited. Wind turbines create intrusive shadow flicker over a long distance when the sun is behind the turning blades. This can trigger seizures in those that are susceptible. Homes up to 2 miles away from wind farms have suffered significant documented property value losses up to 30%. In some cases, families have had to abandon their homes. Television and cell phone signals are often affected by nearby rotating turbine blades. Wind farms fragment wildlife habitat. Wind turbines may shed and throw large pieces of ice over a great distance. Wind turbines are subject to stresses that often cause catastrophic blade failure, collapse, and fire. Wind power is not green. It adds noise, light, and visual pollution, degrades wildlife habitat, and causes industrialization of rural areas.
