A message from Dr. Ronnie Floyd, Senior Pastor

Give God Your Best This Summer
Summertime does not mean you give God less in any area of your life. While you take time off from work or chill a little more than normal, it is not to your benefit to take time off in your walk with Christ and His church. God wants you to give Him your best every day of the year. Summertime calls us to give our best. Just think, we are taking our largest group to Student Camp in our history. We need to pray. We are going to reach great numbers of children at the Springdale campus Kidapalooza, the Pinnacle Hills campus Consistent financial support is needed weekly during this summertime. Weekly giving of the first-tenth and offerings is absolutely essential for us to reach our Summer Program of Giving Goal of $4.6 million. During these 16 weeks from Memorial Day Sunday to Labor Day Sunday, it will take “first-tenth and offerings” from small gifts to very large gifts, which has to do with our various levels of income. So friend, join me in consistent, weekly giving of the first-tenth plus offerings to the Ministry Budget of our church. All of this helps finance the massive, agegraded worship and missions ministries of our church. So friends, may God grant His resources through each of us. Yes, in the summertime, God wants us to give Him our best! changed forever. On that Sunday night, both of our campuses, plus thousands of others will witness our 2nd Annual Fireworks at the Crosses! This event was huge last year, and this year it will be awesome too! The fireworks phenomenon will be preceded by a wonderful outdoor baptism at the crosses. Last year, I personally baptized 64 people, and we are praying for that many and more this year.

“God wants you to give Him your best every day of the year.”

Adventure Week, and Kids Kamp for both campuses. We need to pray. Additionally, just think of all of our community ministries that will go on this summer. Oh folks, we need

to pray. We need to pray for great numbers to participate, for great numbers to be discipled and grow, and we need to pray for great numbers of people to come to Christ. These are pivotal days. Yes, we must give our best in this summertime. Sunday, June 28, we will have our patriotic celebration called Summer Freedom, as Vietnam Veteran Tim Lee and I will bring leadership on that day with our worship teams for this powerful celebration. When that takes place in the morning, we will see thousands of lives influenced and prayerfully, many

n 2001, Elizabeth (Weaver) Walters, a student in First Baptist Church of Springdale’s 24/7 Student Ministry, had a burden on her heart for the boy who lived down the street.
church couldn’t get enough. Elizabeth remembers, “We would go pick him up and he would come out with socks in his pockets, a belt in his mouth, and hair gel in his hand, but he was not about to miss his ride to church.” Michael was immediately overcome with “a great desire to serve the church” and began as the building manager of 24/7, which he explains, “was a professional title for janitor. But this job was so significant because it taught me how to serve and love with humility.” Michael’s position at 24/7 ultimately led to a summer internship with Mission Northwest Arkansas after high school graduation and a deep desire to serve God through missions.

His name was Michael Guyer,
of Missions and Evangelism and the Minister of Missions Mobilization to equip and mobilize the people of the church to become involved in missions locally, nationally, and internationally. When asked what his future holds, Michael replied, “After spending a summer in Jordan, God gave me a desire to take the gospel to Muslims.” Quoting John Keith Falconer, Michael says, “I have but one candle of life to burn, and I would rather burn it out in a land filled with darkness than in a land flooded with light.” Michael adds, “The need is great wherever you look, but I can’t seem to escape the call to work with Muslims. The million dollar question is where. I’m asking God to make that clear. Wherever it is, I can’t wait to go.”

and the two had struck up a friendship while playing basketball outside Elizabeth’s home. Many times Elizabeth had invited Michael, a ninth grader, to church, but had been unsuccessful in convincing him to attend. “He would say he would go with me,” Elizabeth recalls, “but when we would stop to pick him up, he would have some excuse not to go.” But Elizabeth did not give up on her friend. One Saturday night in October 2001, Elizabeth asked Brian Mills, FBCS Junior High Pastor, to go with her to Michael’s home so they could invite Michael to church together. Once again, Michael agreed to go, and the next morning, when Elizabeth and her family stopped by to

pick him up, they were surprised to find him “up and ready.” Michael isn’t sure why he decided to attend church that day. When he told Elizabeth and Brian he would come, he “had every intention of backing out.” He was a kid growing up in a non-Christian home who, by his own account, didn’t care too much about God and didn’t care what He might think of me.” Still, the next morning, he found himself sitting on a pew at First Baptist Church of Springdale. “I’ll never forget that day, October 14, 2001,” Michael says. “I heard the gospel, and it made sense to me for the first time. When Pastor Floyd gave the invitation, I trusted Jesus as my Lord and Savior.” And just like that, the boy with all the excuses in the world to avoid attending After Michael’s freshman year at Liberty University, he was given the opportunity to serve as Pastor Floyd’s assistant at FBCS for the summer. During that summer, Michael surrendered his life to service in full-time missions. Following graduation from Liberty in 2008, Michael returned to Springdale, serving as an intern with the 24/7 Student Ministry. “It really was a picture of God’s grace to go from being a 24/7 student, to 24/7 building manager, to serving alongside Shawn Smith by investing in the lives of students. God used so many people from FBCS to invest in my life, then allowed me to return and give back to the people of His church.” Today, Michael serves as the intern to Global Outreach at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. His responsibilities consist of serving alongside the Minister One of Michael’s fondest memories of First Baptist Church of Springdale includes the night he spoke with Pastor Floyd for the first time, telling him about God’s call on his life. Michael recalls, “[Pastor] shared the same thing Henry Varley shared with D.L. Moody [in 1867], ‘The world has yet to see what God can do with a man wholly committed to Him.’ I remember thinking, ‘I want to be that man.’” And indeed, it remains to be seen what God will do with Michael Guyer.

Michael Guyer just completed his first year at Dallas Theological Seminary where he is pursuing a Master of Theology in Systematic Theology and World Missions.

Our “Father Son Night Out” was a great night where dads and sons spent time together, competed with others, laughed, and had tons of fun. Coach Barry Lunney spoke to the men and challenged these dads to be the quarterbacks of their families. The dads also received tools to guide them in praying for their families and leading them in a way that is pleasing to God. This event was a huge hit as fathers and sons continue to comment on how much fun they had together.
