HOTEL FOR BUNNIES

Troop #71870 Silver Award Project Girl Scout Troop #71870 from Allentown/Robbinsville Service Unit, recently completed their Silver Award Project. The troop planned and implemented the building of a Hotel for Bunnies at Riding High Farm in Allentown, NJ. The three Cadettes earning Silver Award status include Gianna Madaio, Micayla Reynolds and Nicole Russo. The trio worked with contractor Bruce McMillan and built a multi-level hutch for the four-legged furry friends, aka the Hotel for Bunnies. The troop then attended a local auction and rescued a bunny that will soon be housed in the hotel. Currently, the farm is home to four bunnies which include Bun Buns, Lefty ,Eskimo and Flower. After the girls built the hotel and moved the bunnies into their new home, they held classes for people at the farm, on how to care for bunnies. Their project has addressed issues such as; saving bunnies, teaching autistic clients basic skills (ie cleaning, feeding and TLC for the animals), and showing autistic clients animals aren't scary. Riding High Farm was organized in 1979 as a not-for-profit 501c(3) corporation. They are dedicated to providing special needs riders with recreational and therapeutic instruction. Their mission is to enrich the lives of

physically, cognitively and emotionally challenged persons through horse riding instructions that engage special needs individuals in a mainstream recreational and athletic activity and by improving therapeutically through the modality of the horse both physical and cognitive functioning.
