Acknowledgements
I would like to thank all those at Loving From A Distance for sharing ideas, some if which are included in this book. I also would like to thank William from the forums there for proof reading this book and catching some fairly silly mistakes for me.

Dedication
Here is to all those working hard to keep the romance in their relationship alive. No matter the distance, love will die without a little romance now and then! Also, to all those military couples who go weeks and longer without hearing from the one deployed or in training…Much support and love to you. Thank you for what you and your family are doing for your country. Finally, to all those at LFAD, thank you so much for being there for me. Without your support, I am not sure I would have made it this far with him so far away. You’ve helped me hold on when the times got tough, and celebrated with me when they were going smooth. You all ROCK!

Introduction
There was a time when love letters were a major way of communication between couples. This was especially true if the couple’s parents were against them being together or there was a good deal of distance between them. With the advent of email and instant messaging, it seems the love letter is slowly becoming a lost art. This is a very sad thing. There’s no feeling like getting something in the mail from your loved one. You start to smile before you’ve even opened it! These letters are a great way to keep the romance alive. The fact that one has taken the time to write or type up something for the one they care about means a lot. It’s also easier at times to say the sweet sappy things your partner may want or need to hear when it’s on paper. This E-book will hopefully give you some starting points to getting a love letter or few to your special someone. There are 16 ideas here, and a few are actually two ideas in one. You may not use any idea exactly as it is, and that is perfectly okay. These are meant to get you started. Modify these ideas in any way that will make them more suitable for a letter you want to send!

What to use to make some of these love letters extra special
I tend to work with the Microsoft Office Suite. I use it to design stationary that I print out and write my letters on. (One can also find some good, free stationary to print out by doing a search in your favorite search engine for something like “free printable stationary”.) I also design small cards (think business card size) that have sayings on them that I include in letters and other packages. There are similar cards on a site called Loving You. Com. This site has a lot of printable items that you could send to your loved one, or you could email the file to them if you prefer. If you don’t have Microsoft Office, one option is Open Office. This free suite of document processing tools comes to us from Sun Microsystems, which is also responsible for Java. This suite can do anything Office can, or could several years ago.

Love Letter Ideas
1. A day or a week in the life of you
This is a pretty simple sounding one, but can be harder to write than it sounds! You simply record everything you go through in a day or a week. However, you are going to want it to be personal, not like an agenda. Be sure to add commentary to let your loved one know what things in your day were great and what things could have been better. Don’t be afraid to show that you were lonely or down. Be honest and sincere and it will turn out to be a wonderful letter that will help your loved one feel so much closer to you.

2. The Cutest or sweetest thing about your partner
This one should be fun and easy to write. You just tell your loved one what you think is the cutest or sweetest thing about them. Add some examples of times when you two have been together and this quality came through strongly. This letter is sure to earn you many ‘thank you’s at the very least!

3. “Love is...”
This letter is NOT a list of what love is generally. It is a list of the ways you two show each other love. For example, when I wrote this letter, I included things like the fact that we have shortened names for fictional characters and authors, certain ways he closes an IM conversation, and the way we lean on each other in tough times. This letter can be super easy to write or extremely hard…I recommend writing it right after they have done or said something that has you feeling extra loving towards them.

4. Poems
This can be a poem you wrote for them or one you found that makes you think of them or of the two of you. Ones you write yourself always seem to be super special for your loved one. If you go for writing one yourself, just remember a couple things. First, it doesn’t have to be long or rhyme or fit any expectations you remember from school. Second, it will be wonderful as long as you put feeling into it.

5. Your Favorite Thing the Two of You Have Done Recently
Here’s another one that should be pretty easy to write and make your partner very happy when they read it. It’s pretty self explanatory…just remember to try to be descriptive and to tell why it’s your favorite.

6. Send a Photo, or Several
Pick some recent pictures of you and mail them to your loved one. You can include a letter with explanations of where you were and what you were doing in the pictures…or you can write these on the back of the pictures. The photos don’t have to be all posed and have you looking super sexy. I’d almost bet that your partner would love to have candid pictures, and would think you looked awesome even if you disagree!

7. Photo Collage Movie
Similar to the one above, but you use some photos to make a movie of sorts. On Windows based computers, Movie Maker works wonderfully for something like this. You can add transitions, text and music to make it something special. Mac users can do similar things using iMovie. Then you can either upload it somewhere, then send the link to you sweetheart, or burn it to a DVD and put it in the postal mail.

8. Rose Petal I Love You’s
This is one I have done recently. I found a box of fake rose petals for fifty cents at Wal-Mart. I then took several of the petals and wrote I Love You, I Miss You, Wish You Were Here, and several other romantic phrases on them….in various languages. There are several sites you can find with romantic sayings in different languages if you do a search for them. Pick 2 to 4 languages you like the sound of or think of as romantic and search away.

9. Reasons You’re My Favorite Super Star
Another letter I’ve written recently is to list the top 10 reasons your partner is your favorite super star. I had reasons like how handsome, sexy, smart and then things like how they make me think things through, how they support me and help me make the right decisions. I am sure you can come up with even more than 10 reasons, but I find a list of 10 makes me pick out the most important things I want to say.

10. Write a Story Starring You and Your Partner
Before you start thinking there is no way you could do this one, let me tell you why you can do this one. You don’t have to write like a novelist to write a nice story that will delight the one you love. It doesn’t have to be long; sometimes a page is enough to get your ideas across. It doesn’t have to be perfect. The 6 ©2010-2020 Jennifer Jinright My Beautiful NiteMare

only requirement for this story to be good is that you write it with love and a bit of thought. Doesn’t sound too hard, huh? So trust in yourself and this could be one of the most special things you have ever given your sweetheart

11. Make a Word Search and/or Crossword Puzzle
This sounds like it would be really hard I know. However, there is an online generator you can use that is so simple! You just add the words for the Word Search or add the clues plus answers for the Crossword Puzzle. I’d suggest using words that pertain to activities you both enjoy, things you’ve done together, and even each of your favorite whatevers.

12. Send a Cryptogram
If your sweetheart likes puzzles and solving things, then a cryptogram is something they will probably enjoy. This site will take something you’ve written and then make it into gibberish. We’ve all probably solved a few of these in school….where each letter in a gibberish statement stands for a different letter and once you have the symbolism all figured out you can translate the gibberish into something that makes sense. If you use this idea, you will have to add your own clue (as in t=I), so be sure to keep a copy of the answer!

13. Song Lyrics
Pick a song that reminds you of your loved one, times you have spent together, your relationship…in other words: a song that is special to you because of your partner. Then look up and write down the lyrics. Finally, on a different sheet of paper, write out why this song is special to you. Remember to be descriptive and this will surely be a huge hit with your sweetheart.

14. Send a Mixed CD with a Letter Explanation
Take some time to pick out ten to fifteen songs that are special because you have your sweetheart in your life. Burn these songs onto a CD. Then write a letter that explains why you picked each song. Or, if you are pretty crafty with a word processor, you could make a jewel case insert that has the explanations.

15. A Love Contract
I found this one to be pretty fun, but a bit difficult. What you do is write a letter that looks like a legal contract. In it you list the things you promise your loved one (like to love them unconditionally, trust them always, etc.) and what you expect in return. Use as much creativity as you can to make this look good and sound legal without all the mumbo jumbo. 7 ©2010-2020 Jennifer Jinright My Beautiful NiteMare

16. Video Letters
Last, but far from least, are video letters. This is exactly what it sounds like. You use a web cam or camcorder to make a video of yourself telling you sweetheart things you might write in a letter. You can even make a video letter when you walk your dog, go out running errands, or go clothes shopping. No matter how boring you find these events, I would bet your partner would love a video of these things. It will be especially sweet if you are talking to them as if they are there (oh, do you see that?, Isn’t the sunset gorgeous?, Look at what Fluffy is doing, stupid dog!)

Some final thoughts
I hope these ideas will help you start using love letters as a way to keep the romance alive in your relationship. There are so many other great ideas out there if you look around a bit (I recommend doing a search for love letter ideas or something similar). Another thing to remember is that a love letter does not have to be written words on a piece of paper. In this digital again, recording yourself singing “your” song is just as much a love letter as one on paper! Get creative, and above all have fun showing your partner how much you love them! Gurl
