Calculator Notes for the fx-9750G Plus and CFX-9850GC Plus

Note 8A • Animating a Figure
This is a sample program that translates the arrow in the project of Lesson 8.1. You can modify this program to translate a different figure or to involve other transformations. Enter the following program into your calculator. (See Note 0G if you need help entering a program.)
File Name:ANIMATE {-7,-5,-6,-5,-5}áList 1 {-5,-3,-3,-3,-4}áList 2 S-Gph2 DrawOff S-Gph3 DrawOff S-Gph1 DrawOn,xyLine,List 1,List 2,1,Dot For 1áA To 20 ClrGraph S-WindMan ViewWindow -7.8,7.8,1,-4.6,4.6,1 DrawStat List 1+.6áList 1 List 2+.35áList 2 For 1áD To 100:Next Next ClrGraph ViewWindow -7.8,7.8,1,-4.6,4.6,1 DrawStat

When you run the program, the arrow will appear to move from the lower left to the upper right of the screen in 20 frames.

Note 8B • Transformations of Functions
You can graph multiple, transformed versions of the same function on the same screen. Suppose you want to translate the graph of y ϭ x 2 horizontally to the right 3 units, to the right 5 units, and to the left 1 unit. Perform the following steps: a. From the Run screen, enter (xϪA)2,[Aϭ0,3,5,Ϫ1] into Y1 in the Graph Func screen. (See Note 5C.) b. Enter GRAPH mode and press F6 (DRAW). Watch the four functions as they are plotted to see which is associated with which translation. Press EXIT and F6 (DRAW) to repeat the plotting. c. Press F1 (TRCE) to trace on the graph. The left and right arrow keys move the cursor along one of the graphs. The up and down arrow keys move the cursor from one function to another.
