KEYNOTES:
EASTERN LEAGUE PUIG: After going 17-for-39 (.436) with a pair of double, homers and seven RBIs in 10 games as a Key, Cuban outfielder Dariel Alvarez was promoted to Bowie this afternoon. Alvarez, 24, defected from Cuba to Mexico before the 2012 season, where he played in the Veracruz league and hit .317 for Tuxpan. In five seasons with the Cuban Leagues Camaguey, Alvarez hit .297 with 37 home runs and 180 RBIs. The Orioles signed him in late July. Trent Mummey, who injured his hamstring in the second game of the season, returns to fill his roster spot. DOUBLE-DOG ADAIR: Keys utility player Travis Adair has hit in 16 straight games, batting .381 with six doubles, a triple, a homer, eight RBIs and 10 runs scored during his streak, which is the longest streak for a Key this season, the longest active streak by an active Carolina Leaguer and the sixth longest streak in the league this season. RUDY ON THE RUN: Keys outfielder Johnny Ruettiger stole his 41st base of the season last week, putting him four behind the Carolina Leagues active steals leader, Potomacs Michael Taylor. Former P-Nat Billy Burns still leads the league with 51 steals and was promoted to Double-A on Aug. 2. Ruettigers 41 swipes are the second-most for a Key since the 1994 season, when Harry Berrios stole 42 bases and Kimera Bartee stole 44. Fredericks single-season steals record belongs to Tim Raines Jr., who stole 81 bases in 2000.

This Day in Keys History

August 25, 1991: Two-run homers from Brad Tyler and Brent Miller propelled the Keys to an 8-5 win at Salem. Future big leaguer Manny Alexander went 2for-3 and scored three times.
