The Congressional School of Virginia Spanish-7th Grade Fall 2013 - Spring 2014 Course Information, Expectations, and Guidelines

Welcome to Spanish II! I am Seora Angelovich and I look forward to a successful school year! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns/questions. My email is: aangelovich@csov.org Course Description Spanish IIA at Congressional is spread out over the course of two years. Students will complete year I of Spanish A in 7th grade and part IIB in 8th grade. Spanish II is a High School course, so students will need to keep up with their assignments and study each evening to be successful. Students will complete the first half of our textbook Realidades. Students enrolled in Spanish IIA will continue their study of the Spanish language and culture while simultaneously improving their knowledge of their own native language and culture through comparisons and analyses. Students will work toward mastering the essential knowledge, skills and understandings of Spanish conversation, grammar, and cultures. This will be demonstrated through a variety of assessments, including novelas and projects. This course will focus on developing further in depth the four primary communicative skills in Spanish: listening, speaking, reading and writing. In order to fully understand the impact and the influence of the Spanish language on today's society, we will also study the rich cultures, customs, current events and geographies of several Spanish-speaking countries in the target language. All students will take the National Spanish Exam-Spanish level I in the Spring. Textbook Online Realidades II - followed by Realidades Workbook Materials 1. Pen or pencil 2. One three-ring binder with pockets-separate section for Spanish class 3. Loose-leaf paper 4. Journal (composition or spiral notebook) 5. Spanish-English Dictionary- to keep at home

Grading Tests 30%- will be given after the completion of each unit. All tests will be announced in advance and students will receive a review outline/guide. We will also review in class. All students will take The National Spanish Exam at the end of the school year. Projects/Presentations 20%- will be assigned at least one time each trimester. Quizzes 20%- will be given at any time to evaluate students comprehension of material. All quizzes will be announced in advance. Classwork 15%- will be collected and/or checked randomly. Students must show any notes taken during class or progress on in-class assignments when asked. Students will be graded based upon completion. Participation will be graded based on oral practice individually, in pairs, and in groups. Materials will be checked frequently at random to ensure students are able to participate in all activities. Homework (written) 15%- will be assigned 3-4 times per week and checked regularly for completion. Students must PRACTICE SPEAKING Spanish at home every night! Assignments are posted daily on the school website & on the board. All homework is assigned for extra practice. All late homework will lose 10 points for each class day late. Daily Routines: Students will arrive to class on time will all materials necessary, and ready to work on the following schedule: 5-10 minutes: Warm-up activity & go over homework 15-20 minutes: Notes and Differentiated Instruction 15-20 minutes: Reinforcement activities (Guided and Independent) 5-10 minutes: Follow up/homework distribution I agree to follow the Spanish guidelines mentioned in the syllabus for this year.
