Pre-Algebra B
Welcome to Pre-B. Classes will involve taking notes, discussion, writing, group and partner activities, openers, presentations, investigations, daily classwork, assessments, and homework (yes, homework!).
Make sense of problems & persevere in solving them. Reason abstractly & quantitatively. Construct viable arguments & critique the reasoning of others. Model with mathematics. Use appropriate tools strategically. Attend to precision. Look for and make use of structure. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
GRADING SCALE
Assessments, Projects, and Notebook: Homework: Classwork: Warm-ups: approx 75% approx 10% approx 10% approx 5%
Mid-Term and Final Exams: Get averaged in with assessments, projects, and notebook Zeros and Fs on assessments will not be tolerated; Students are required to eliminate any zeros and follow through on re-taking if they failed to master a concept.

HOW
TO
SUCCEED
IN
MATH CLASS
Do your homework and take notes in class Ask for help from a classmate or the teacher Retake assessments as needed Eliminate missing grades and dont get zeros. Stay organized and be proactive Come in ready to learn and ask meaningful questions Come with the mindset that its ok to make mistakes
Course Description
SEMESTER 1 Unit 1 Number Sense, Statistics, Shapes, and Equation Review
Cumulative Review of weaknesses in Pre-Algebra A. Determined by a pre-test, TCAP scores, and students needs.
Unit 2
Equations and Inequalities Apply and extend previous understandings of operations to perform them on rational number mathematical problems. Solve multi-step linear equations and inequalities. Unit 3 Linear Graphing and Functions Be able to represent the equation of a line by using a graph, table, equation, and a word problem. Use similar triangles to understand slopes. Students need to manipulate an equations to make them useful for real=world applications. Be able to solve systems of equations using elimination, substitution or graphing. Unit 4 Probability and Data Analysis Draw inferences about a population and compare two different populations. Investigate patterns in bivariate (two variable) statistics. Find the probability of the chance of something happening and of compound events using organized lists, tables, tree diagrams and simulations.

SEMESTER 2 Unit 5
Geometric Properties State the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle. Use properties of supplementary, complementary, vertical and adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to solve equations. Understand the angles in parallel lines that are cut by a transversal. Understand rotations, reflections, translations and dilations. Know the formulas to find the volume of threedimensional figures.

Right Triangle Properties Explain and prove the Pythagorean Theorem. Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to determine unknown side lengths in a right triangle and the distance between two points. Extend the number system to irrational numbers, square roots, perfect squares, perfect cubes, etc.
Unit 7 Polynomials Perform arithmetic operations on polynomials. Interpret the structure and different parts of an expression, such as terms, factors, and coefficients.
