Did you read about yesterday’s victory for equality in San Antonio?

Yesterday afternoon, Mayor Julian Castro and members of the San Antonio City Council passed a nondiscrimination ordinance, making it illegal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation within city limits. Today, Texas is in the news across the country for equality and acceptance! That’s the Texas we know we can be. Thank Mayor Castro and the San Antonio City Council for passing NDO4SA.

This is an important victory for San Antonio -- but also for equality and fairness in our state. People of faith, business leaders, religious leaders, veterans, the Bexar Democratic Party and even the San Antonio Spurs spoke out in favor of the ordinance -- because they know discrimination has no place in Texas. We’re strongest when everyone gets a fair shot -- at a good job, and a safe home to live in. The fight is not over. Conservative groups are lining up to target Mayor Castro and members of the City Council, and are even talking about collecting signatures for a recall campaign. Show Mayor Castro and the San Antonio City Council that they have the support of all of Texas. Texans should never feel like they are second-class citizens. Today, we celebrate this victory -- and look forward to many more in the future.
