People face many obstacles throughout their lives.

Orison Swett Marden, founder of Success Magazine, stated that Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds. A persons true colors are revealed in the way they deal with obstacles. When faced with obstacles, the hero in the epic Sundiata shows the qualities of honor, courage, and determination. Sundiata shows great honor in his childhood. When his mother is taunted by Sassouma Berete, Sundiata is impelled to walk to reclaim his mothers honor and end her humiliation. When Sundiata finally accomplishes this task, he states, Mother, here are some Baobab leaves for you. From henceforth, it will be outside your hut that the women of Niani will come to stock up. In completing this feat, Sundiata wants his mother to have the honor that she deserves. By collecting so many Baobab leaves, Sundiata shows that his mother deserves honor and the other women in the village will look up to her. Along with honor, Sundiata needed courage to face more obstacles.
