Is Gene Forrester a Bad Person?

Gene Forrester is not a bad person because he never meant any harm to Phineas since the beginning. For instance, when Gene and Phineas agreed to jump off of the tree limb together, Gene took a step toward him, and then my knees bent and I jounced the limb. (Knowles 60) By doing that, Finny lost his balance and tumbled sideways, broke through the little branches below and hit the bank with a sickening, unnatural thud (Knowles 60). Genes knee movement was accidental, and it was not meant to try and force Finny to fall, proving that Gene isnt a bad person. Another instance was when Finny came back to Devon after resting up; he found out that Gene was going to enlist into the army. Gene came about and realized that Finny needed me. (Knowles 108) Instead of going on with the plan and enlisting with Brinker, Gene agreed to stay with Finny. Genes actions show that he is a caring friend, and not a bad person.
