Plant Cells: Organelles: Cell Wall: Outer layer, made of cellulose- allows H20, 02, CO2 to pass in and

out of cell. Plant cells have rigid cell walls usually made up of cellulose. It maintains the shape of the cell and is a protective barrier. Cell Membrane: Inside cell wall, Controls movement of materials in/out of cell. Maintain homeostasis. Every plant cell is enclosed in a double membrane of phospholipids. It is responsible for the entry and exit of materials in and out of the cell. Nucleus: Large oval, enclosed in a double membrane communicating with surrounding cytosol via nuclear pores. Contains DNA. The nucleus is enclosed in a double membrane and communicates with the cytosol via nuclear pores. The nucleus contains the DNA which provides the cells of characteristics The nucleus is a membrane bound organelle containing the genetic material DNA. It communicates with surrounding cytosol via nuclear pores. The nucleus is enclosed in a double membrane and communicates with the cytosol via nuclear pores. The nucleus contains the DNA which provides the cells of characteristics. Nuclear membrane: surrounds nucleus, controls movement of materials in/out of nucleus Cytoplasm: Found inside cell membrane, clear thick material that carries materials through the cell Rough endoplasmic reticulum: Network of tubes or membranes that carries materials through cell The rough endoplasmic reticulum is in involved in protein production. It is called rough because it is studded with ribosomes. These ribosomes produce proteins. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum produces fats and steroid hormones. The rough endoplasmic reticulum contains ribosomes, making it the site of protein synthesis. Ribosomes: Small bodies either free or attached to the endoplasmic reticulum, produces proteins Mitochondrion: Bean shaped. Breaks down sugar molecules into energy Mitochondria generates the cells supply of ATP because they generate most of the cell's supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), used as a source of chemical energy Vacuole: Fluid filled sacs, stores food, water and waste Chloroplasts: Green and oval containing chlorophyll. Uses energy from sun to make food for the plant (photosynthesis)
