Dear Parents / Guardians, The Evans PTA would like to wish you a very warm welcome as your child enters Evans! We know that entering a new school can sometimes be stressfulfor both the children and the parents. We are here to assist you in any way we can as you become part of the Evans family! Following is some brief information on the PTA, how its structured, where you can go for more information, and who you can contact if you have a PTA -related question. What is the goal of the PTA? The goal of our PTA is to support the educational programs and welfare of the children of Evans and to build strong working relationships among parents, teachers and our school community, in continuous support of our students. Who are our members? The Evans PTA consists of hundreds of parents, grandparents, guardians, teachers, and staff. What does the PTA do? The PTA coordinates and conducts a wide variety of events, programs, and services for the Evans community. Some of these include:

Events: Fall and Spring Scholastic Book Fairs, Pumpkin Carving Family Night, Pretzel Day for the students, 4th Grade Turkey Trot, Holiday Shoppe for students, Family Roller Skating Day, Candy Bar Bingo, Science Fair and Science Expo, 4th and 5th Grade Dance, 5th Grade Party, Mothers Day Plant Sale, Teacher Appreciation Luncheons, Family Movie Night, Ice Cream Sundae Night for Families, Field Day, Testing Day Treats, Staff Volleyball Cross -town Classic vs. Van Zant, 5th Grade Family End of Year Dinner, Services & Programs: Weekly Parent Communications (E-mail communications, PTA website, Monthly Newsletter), Room Parent Coordination, Halloween Candy Drive for those in need, Have a Heart Drive collection benefiting Ronald McDonald House and local Pediatric Hospital, Art Goes to School Program, School Beautification, Cultural Assemblies for students, 5th Grade Trip, Yearbook funding, Support of D.A.R.E. and Drug -Free programs and awareness, Hospitality and Welcoming Committees What to expect - how do I find out about upcoming events and things going on at the school? There are several ways the PTA stays connected with families:

E-mail Communications, The Tuesday Packet: The PTA sends out weekly e-mail communications, called The Tuesday Packet to all families. This packet contains important information, flyers on upcoming events, school notices, etc. To sign-up for e-mail communications, please click here. Monthly Newsletter, The Critters Corner: Every month the PTA distributes a newsletter containing articles on upcoming fundraisers, events, news, and programs, and also recaps those events that happened during the month for families who were not able to attend. PTA Website, www.evanspta.com: The PTA manages a website that is updated on a routine basisoften several times a week. The website has tons of information, including descriptions of all of the events, services, and fundraisers conducted throughout the year, calendars, contact information, important updates, links to all past communications sent via email, information on how to volunteer and how to become a member, etc. Facebook page, F.V. Evans Elementary School PTA: The PTA also has a Facebook page as another way to stay connected to parents, take questions, foster discussion, trade ideas, etc. Welcoming Committee Buddy System for New Families We realize that often times, parents may be hesitant to come to a PTA meeting or offer to volunteer at an event if they dont know anyone. We want to change that! Our Welcoming Committee is here to help you get familiar with the school and the PTA by offering a buddy who you can contact anytime on a one-on-one basis to assist you throughout the year with any questions you may have. If youre interested, please click here, complete the information asked, and a buddy will contact you via phone or email. Once again, welcome to the Evans PTA Family! If you have any questions, please contact any one of us on the Executive Board, or if you have a general question you can email: webmaster@evanspta.com

We have many exciting fundraisers planned for this school year, however we realize that not everyone will be able to participate in every fundraiser. It is the goal of the PTA to provide enough options for families to choose what they are able to participate in, without the expectation of having families participate in each fundraiser. Our fundraisers go toward many events, programs, and services that the PTA provides for the children each year.

Some of the events and programs that the fundraisers support each year include: Science Expo Science Fair Yearbooks Field Day Cultural Assemblies Just Pretzel Day Testing Day Treats Turkey Trot 4th and 5th grade dance 5th grade party Evans Movie Night Evans Family Fun Day (Roller Skating) Ice Cream Sundae Night Art Goes to School Program School Beautification Projects Health and Welfare Needs DARE Program 5th Grade Trip Candy Bar Bingo Pumpkin Carving Night PTA website Teacher Appreciation Lunch 5th Grade Family Dinnermuch more!

If you are unable to participate in fundraisers but would like to give a general contribution, you can always send in a donation using the link here:

To help our families plan, weve included a fundraising timeline, which is continued on the next page.

Update on Technology Initiative Fundraising:

The PTA and Evans School worked together over the past two years to raise funds for the Evans PTA Technology Initiative to bring more ActivBoards to the classrooms. We are proud to announce that as of the beginning of this school year, ActivBoards are now in every instructional classroom. Thank you for all of your efforts, volunteerism, donations, and support!
