Madhya Parashari First of all consider the longevity of the native: Whether his life span is Bala rishta,

short, medium or full; there after the horoscope be studied for other indications. When a native has no t to live long it is useless to know the other events of his life. Then assess the properties and effects, good or bad, of the twelve houses. For the (a) (b) (c) the sake of convenience we may classify planets who cause death as follows: Primary Determinants of death, Secondary Determinants of death, and Tertiary Determinants of death.

(a) Primary Determinants of Death. The 3rd and 8th are houses of life and the 2nd and 7th are houses of death. (i) Lord of the 2nd or 7th is a determinant of death; (ii) the (malefic) occupants of these two houses, and (iii) the (malefic) planets in association with the above lords are also determi nants of death. Of these several determinants above mentioned, planets in conjunction with lords of 2nd and 7th are the most powerful in causing death, while the lords themselves are least powerful. (b) Secondary Determinants of Death. Above we have referred to the malefic associates with lords of 2nd and 7th and ma lefic occupants. The following may also become Marakas or death-inflicting planets : (i) Benefic planets in association with lords of 2nd and 7th, (ii) lords of 3rd and 8th and (iii) lord of 3rd or 8th associated with 2nd or 7th lord. (c) Tertiary Determinants of Death. (i) Saturn in conjunction, association or aspect with the Marakas (determinants of death) mentioned above, (ii) lord of the 6th or 8th whether or not he is associated with a Maraka planet , and (iii) the least powerful planet in the horoscope. It is suggested in certain works that the following planets will not cause death , (i) The Sun and the Moon and (ii) the 9th lord. In actual practice, however, this is not found to be true. Lords of the Vipat, Pratyari and Vadha Stars have been considered in Jataka Shas tra as Marakas. 3rd, 5th, 7th stars from the birth star are called respectively Vipat, Pratyari and Vadha stars.(6) short 3rd dasha medium 5th dasah full 7th dasah 3. The learned have advised to consider the Ascendant and the 9th house for the wealth of the native; and the 4th and 10th, for his happiness and prosperity.

4. The 8th house from the Ascendant and the 8th from the 8th i.e. the 3rd are th e two houses of longevity. The 12th (Vayaya) from them i.e. the 2nd and 7th are Marakasthanas. 5. Except the Sun and Moon, all the other planets when they own the Marakasthana s become Maraka planets. Lords of the 6th, 8th, 12th and Rahu-Ketu are also Marakas. Inauspicious Houses The house formed by the sum of the 11th, 3rd, 8th, 6th and 12th will certainly d estroy its own properties. Auspicious Houses Angular signs (1-4-7-10) are benefic and Trinal signs (9-5) are good and auspici ous. The house formed by the sum of these, even if it is evil, will give good effects . When lord of the Lagna be weak, be aspected by malefics and be not aspected by or conjoined with benefics, the native suffers from some affliction of the Dhatu of that plarret (who is lord of the Lagna). For example, the Sun would in such a position cause some kind of bone disease and the Moon in similar position would be the causeo f someb lood diseaseT. he other planets if they are disposed likewise would give diseases related to their Dhatus. Mercury-Vertigo, lethargy, giddiness, madness, Asthma diseases of the brain, T.8 .,stammering,d effects of memory, dry coughs, abundance of spittle, gout in the hands and feet, leprosy , cancer, epilepsy etc. Jupiter-Liver complaints, jaundice, dropsy, flatulence, dyspepsia, abscess, obes ity, hernia, skin troubles, cerebral congestion, catarrh of stomach and carbuncles, etc. Venus - Affection of eyes, diseases of ovaries, Mucous diseases, blight s disease cysts, gout, anaemia, and other complications due to over indulgence in amusements, eating drinking et c.i including gonorrhoea, Syphilis and other urinary complaints. Saturn-Obstruction of lymphatic circulation, retention of wastes in the body, me mbranes getting hardened, pyorrhoea, small pox, falls, injuries, operation, fracture, spinal cur vature, chill, diphtheria, asthma, T.B., defective speech, paralysis, nervous break down, cardiac trouble, leprosy, etc. Rahu - Rheumatism, cholera, dysentery and nasty diseases of mind and body, nervo us troubles, paralysis etc. Ketu-Skin diseases, pimples, sudden heart attack jaundice, colic pains, dropsy, abscess, paralysis small pox etc If lord of the Lagna occupies the Lagna and is aspected by a malefic, the part o r limb of the body represented by the sign (rasi) at the Lagna gets diseased. Mesha represents head, Taurus face and mouth, Gemini respiratory canal, Cancer u pper stomach and lungs, Leo heart and stomach, Virgo intestines and waist, Libra generative organs, Scorpio scrotum and anus, S agittarius hips and thighs, Capricorn knees, Aquarius calves and Pisces feet. Therefore, if Mars occupies Lagna in his sign Aries and is aspected by malefics, the native is likely to suffer from some disease in the head . If the Moon be in the Lagna in his own sign Cancer aspected by the Sun and Mars, the native will be a hunchback (gqd . Similarly if Saturn be in the Lagna in the sign and be aspected by the Sun and Mars, the native will be lame. The rule given in the above sloka is operative in both the cases. When the malefics aspect the Moon in his own sign, the fourth sign's part of the body gets affected adversely and the curvature of the chest (caused by Mars) is quite understandable. A man with curvature of the chest is called a hu nchback. The reason is that the sign occupied by the Lagna represents the relevant part of the Kalapurusha a nd when that sign and its lord fall under malevolent influence, it gets diseased or deformed. The same rule will apply if lord of the Lagna may not be occupying the Lagna; but both the Lagna and its lord be under malefic influences.
