Canadian Studies CALL FOR PAPERS The 14th Jerusalem Conference in Canadian Studies Jerusalem, Israel, 20-23 May 2013

Canada and Israel in a Changing World: New Trends and Directions Recent changes in world affairs have posed new domestic, regional and international political, social, and economic challenges to both Canada and Israel. The global economic meltdown, the Arab Spring, the resurgence of political protests and the impact of digital technologies and social media on political communication and mobilization are only some of the major issues that have required scholars and policy makers to reassess conventional ways of understanding politics and policy at the domestic, regional and international levels. A three-day international conference at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem held by the Halbert Center for Canadian Studies and the Israel Association for Canadian Studies will explore, from a multi-disciplinary perspective, the way in which Canada and Israel cope with these new challenges. The organizing committee of the conference will welcome proposals relating to the theme in diverse fields such as: Political Science Social Policy History Economy and Political Economy International Relations Arts and Literature Communication, Media and Journalism Geography Urban and Regional Planning Minority Studies Cultural Studies Business/Management/Entrepreneurship Education Sociology Law

Presentations must deal with the topic either within Canada or containing some Canadian content for comparative purposes. Anyone interested in presenting research relevant to the central theme of the conference is invited to submit a double-spaced 250-350 word abstract in Times New Roman 12 point font, and a short CV (one page). Each proposal should specify the aspects(s) of the theme addressed. Abstracts in English or French should be sent by e-mail to the Conference Secretariat no later than October 15, 2012. All authors will be notified regarding the status of their abstract submission by December 15, 2012. All enquiries and submission of abstracts should be made to the Conference Secretariat.
