Our Wastewater Systems Overview
Wastewater treatment is a complex and expensive operation - and one that is vital to protect our health, the environment and our quality of life. South Australia led the nation in installing wastewater treatment systems and was the first Australian capital to achieve secondary treatment of all wastewater. SA Water’s metropolitan wastewater system serves Adelaide's population through more than 8000 kilometres of sewer pipes and three major wastewater treatment plants: Bolivar, Glenelg, Christies Beach as well as a small plant at Aldinga. In the county we manage 19 of the 20 wastewater treatment plants, with the Victor Harbor plant privately operated under contract. To find out how you too can help support the wastewater treatment process and find out more interesting wastewater facts please see our page; Treated well, it's not just waste.
