To Strive for Success and To Serve

Lisbon The Games staff expect all pupils who are selected as part of a squad to be fully committed to their own personal fitness, training sessions and PE. Any pupils who are not fully committed to any aspect of the tournament preparations will not be selected to represent the school at this event. In addition, pupils are to realise that it is an honour to represent the school and should act accordingly. Girls will be playing football and boys will be playing basketball. All girls will be required to wear football boots and shinpads. Dates for your diary: 14th-16th November Divisions 3, 4 & 5 Health related fitness This term the PE department is making pupils aware of the particular advantages of exercise and the long term benefits to them. It is our aim to stimulate and excite pupils into wanting to exercise and educate them in how they can lead a healthy active lifestyle for years to come. Pupils are being educated in the following areas; aerobic exercise, anaerobic exercise, diet, resistance training and core strength. The benefits of these areas are to strengthen their cardiovascular system, preventing obesity, increasing self esteem and improving elite performance. As part of the curriculum we have carried out baseline testing and our results were less than impressive. Unless we encourage them to exercise, I am concerned that many of our pupils will have poor aerobic fitness and they could potentially suffer from obesity or heart disease in the future. As a department we are going to establish lunchtime circuit training where pupils will be invited to attend a short session. These sessions will particularly benefit those wanting to be selected for Lisbon. I would encourage anyone who scored below Level 5 on the Multi-stage fitness test to attend. Jewellery-remove As part of the PE departments health and safety policy, it is compulsory that pupils remove all jewellery for PE and Games lessons. This includes all necklaces, bracelets, earrings, watches etc. If there is a particular reason that jewellery cannot be removed, it needs to either be securely taped over or covered with a wristband. Any questions pertaining to the above please feel free to contact Mr. S Gibbons (Head of PE) Stephen.Gibbons@obs.edu.pt
