The football arena
The relationship between father and son is often a very strong and respectful bond. The way a little boy idolizes his dad trying to bee and look just like his father. A little boy will try to do everything just right to maximize the attention from his father and his father's approval. When times go by the relationship will change character and as time go by a, little boy that now has grown big will yet start to idealize his father for the person he is. But unfortunately in some cases this close relationship may come to a sudden end and the bonds are ripped apart. The football arena is a short story written by Susan Baines in 2006. The football arena is a story about a father and his son on their way to a Lacrosse "meeting". One their way the father has a lot of memories about his former life, and the life he lives now. The story ends when the two reach the Lacrosse meeting point, the football arena. In the text we meet the two persons in the car, the father which is the narrator and his son. We don't get a lot of information's about how these two persons look or behavior but we know that the father earlier in his life had another wife and another son called Willie. Willie we are told were adopted into the family and because of that the father had a very unique relationship to him. He says" This was the sweetest victory in any arena, Willie in my arms, that slight but significant heft of his flesh on my shoulders.1" And later on: " But because he was adopted, Willie was on another level. He came from the body of a stranger and was literally handed to us. Think of the odds, that out of the millions children born on earth this one finds his way to you, altering both you lives forever..."2 Willie has made a deep impact on him and because of the fact he is adopted the father feels even more attached to him. His earlier life makes him glad and he actually comes with a comparison to his current life when he says " It was a good life"3, not that he says his current life is bad. But when he talks about this former life it's definitely don with a smile on his face. But this "good life" had at a time in the past come to a sudden hold when Willie and the father was involved in a accident where he dies. The lost of Willie has change our narrators life sins and he is plagued by dream of this accident and the lost of Willie that weight him down. " My life is burdened by the weight of the "dream".
