Delaying chord tones and then continuing up or changing direction
If you are running up and down, you might want to delay the chord tones by an EVEN number of notes like in this example:

Examples NOTA BENE: A small note on approach notes. If you are approaching a chord tone from above, you should definitely want to use a diatonic tone (see note). If you are approaching a chord tone from below, you could use chromatic approach tones.
