What is poetry?
• A written composition in metrical form expressing facts, thoughts or feelings in poetical form is called a poem.

• It is characterized by ‘artistic construction’ ,‘beauty of language’ and ‘elevated thought’.

BALLAD
There are two kinds of Ballad:

Folk Ballad
• The Bailiff’s Daughter of Islington • Barbara Allen • The Deceived Maid • Golden Vanity

Literary Ballad

CONCLUSION
Poetry sings of the emotional and spiritual side of the things. The world of science begins within experimenting FACTS. Whereas the world of poetry begins with the world of EMOTIONS and GENERALISATIONS. For example, when we call a ‘lily’ a ‘lily’, the botanist would call it “Hexandria Monogynia”, which is a matter of science. But the poet Spenser calls the lily ‘the lady of the garden’. For Ben Johnson it is ‘the plant and flower of light’. Thus the significance of poetry is in interpretation of life-of nature and humanity through imagination and
