In anime, it is often not about muscle but about wits. We often see brainy anime characters put their intellect into good use to get themselves out of of almost impossibly difficult situations — and why not?! Now, in a poll conducted by Japanese media website Goo, they asked which smart anime and manga do respondents think are the cleverest. The results are in and here are their top 20: 20- Toua Tokuchi from One Outs- 6 votes 19- Harunobu Madarame from Genshiken-9 votes 18- Dr. Vegapunk from One Piece- 19 votes 17- Shigeru Akagi from Akagi- 27 votes 16- Yoichi Hiruma from Eye Shield 21- 46 votes 15- Hidetoshi Dekisugi from Doraemon- 49 votes 14- Taikobo from Hoshin Engi- 57 votes 13- Shinichi Akiyama from Liar Game- 58 votes 12- Kaiji from Kaiji- 89 votes 11- Lelouch Vi Britannia/ Lamperouge from Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion- 100 votes 10- Kurapika from Hunter X Hunter- 129 votes 7- Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho- 179 votes 8- Light Yagami from Death Note- 138 votes

5- L from Death Note- 288 votes

1- Conan Edogawa from Detective Conan- 1766 votes

4- Ikkyu from Ikkyu-san- 376 votes

There you have it, Goo’s 20 smartest characters in anime. #1 ain’t so surprising as Conan really uses his wit to solve mysteries, as with his in-series rival, the #2 ranked Kaito Kid. Hajime Kindaichi also uses his vast amount of logic to get himself out of situations and solve mysteries. He has even teamed up with Conan in a couple of special edition crossover mangas. L and Light also made it to the top 10 as their epic battle of logic, wits and trickery became the basis for the popular anime Death Note. The mischievous monk, Ikkyu also made it to the top 10 as he has used his own intellect to not only play pranks but also help people out. The “manipulative” Lelouch didn’t make it to the top 10 however but be sure that this chess master can make you do

A location test for the arcade fighting game will be held next week, from October 11 to 13, so that’s when we can likely expect more information on this highly-anticipated title. For those of you readers lucky enough to be in Tokyo from October 11 to 13, the location test will be held at two separate places: the Club Sega 1-Go branch in Akihabara (## ### 1# # which is the oldest branch; there’s like two or three Club Sega arcades in Akiba) and Club Sega Shinjuku West Exit (# ## ## ####) near JR Shinjuku station. Until then, here’s the first trailer for the game, which was also unveiled today at the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival held in Akihabara today. Two more playable characters have just been unveiled for Sega and Ascii Media Work’s 2D fighter Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax. Durarara!!’s Shizuo Heiwajima and Accel World’s Kuroyukihime will join Sword Art Online’s Asuna, Shana from Shakugan no Shana, Oreimo’s Kirino Kousaka and A Certain Scientific Railgun’s Misaka Mikoto in the roster for the 2D fighter, which will hit arcades in Japan first, before seeing a home console release. Details on which platform it will appear on, and a release time frame for the home cosnole version have not yet been announced.

When Dengeki Bunko announced the new fighting game based on their characters, people went nuts. Just the sight of Shakugan no Shana’s titular character fighting Sword Art Online’s Asuna was enough to send shivers down the spines of many fans the world over.

Now, two new main roster characters as well as several support characters have finally been announced and they are A Certain series‘ Mikoto Misaka and OreImo‘s Kirino… wait… Kirino?! That’s right! Everyone’s favorite (or not-sofavorite) bro-con little sister will be fighting the likes of Academy City level 5 esper Mikoto and Flame Haze Shana.

The roster of support characters have also been announced. Supporting Sword Art Online‘s Asuna will be the lightningfast Leafa and supporting Shana will be the Flame Haze maid Wilhelmina Carmel. Supporting Kirino meanwhile will be her “friend” Kuroneko and supporting Mikoto will be the “Imagine Breaker” himself, Touma Kamijou.

Support characters can be called freely and can also be used as part of a combo. Support characters however cannot be used in succession as there will be a 4-5 second recovery time after you use them. Besides the support character system, players have a variety of other attacks to choose from like the Impact skill when you press A+B or A+B+down or the Blast attack when you simultaneously press A, B and C. You can also use your trump card by pressing B+C together. This will unleash a very powerful attack but you will have to spend a “Blitz Mark” to use it.

In the October of 1972, legendary manga artist Go Nagai set the standards for the super robot genre with Mazinger Z. Now, his classic work will get transformed into moe anime girls with Robot Girls Z.

The anime is scheduled to air January 2014 during the winter anime season and to celebrate, the three main voice actresses pay Go Nagai a visit. Seiyuu or voice actresses Inori Minase, Kazusa Aranami and Mariko Honda payed the legendary manga author a visit and he greeted the girls warmly. The three voice actresses were even given a special Super Robot Chogokin of their respective super robot counterparts. Inori Minase voices Gre-chan who is based on Great Mazinger, Kazusa Aranami voices Grenda-san who is based on Grendizer and Mariko Honda voices Zed-chan who of course is the anime girl version of Mazinger Z. The three held their super robot counterparts as they posed a picture with Go Nagai.

The game uses the standard eight-way joystick and four buttons system so attack combos aren’t going to be super easy or super difficult to do. Some however celebrated her birthday with their own army of Madokas. Here’s one from twitter user Powder Naotan complete with nendoroids, pillows, pvc figures, mugs, stuffed toys and much more Madoka merchandise.

October 3 marked the birthday of one of the most popular anime characters around, and Madoka Magica‘s titular character certainly needs to celebrate her birthday as she has certainly been through a lot. Her fans have become aware of this celebrated her birthday in classic otaku fashion. Some celebrated her birthday quietly with some cake and of course, Madoka herself… in figure form.

Here’s one from twitter user Luna Ty and this twitter user even has a Madoka poster making a birthday greeting. Of course, Homura has something for her “dear friend”. I’m sure this present has a lot of love put into it in it.

Meanwhile, twitter user atunyahaaan celebrated the magical goddess’s birthday with a custom-made Madoka cake

Sega has announced that the theme song for Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2, which comes out on November 28 for the 3DS, is a track produced by Mitchie M entitled Ageage Again (########). Mitchie M’s Freely Tomorrow (featured in Project Diva f/F) is one of my favourite songs, so this pleases me greatly. Twitter user Eco To also celebrated Madoka’s birthday with his own Madoka Kaname character collection. Along with that announcement, Sega has also shared the music video for Ageage Again (pronounced ‘ah-gay-ah-gay again’; ‘ageage’ in Japanese roughly translates to ‘get high’) that will appear in Project Mirai 2. On top of this music video, the actual game will also have a different opening intro video that features the song – you’ll have to wait a little longer to see it! If you’re digging Ageage Again, you might be interested to know that the track will also be featured in Mitchie M’s upcoming first major album, Greatest Idol (########## #), slated to hit record stores in Japan November 6, 2013. The album’s jacket illustration, which you see below, is done by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto – best known for his work on the character designs for Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Madoka’s birthday was set at October 3 by Madoka Magica writer Gen Urobuchi because according to a past tweet, October 3 was the day when the “Mahou Shoujo Apocalypse Madoka☆Magica Project” document was created.
