10/1/13 INFORMATION ABOUT THE LESSON Content Standards: DMPS Curriculum Guide: 2.1 4.3 5.1 5.4 6.1 Enduring Understanding and/or Essential Question: Why are masks made? Instructional Objectives: Introduction to masks and their uses and cultural significance. Prior Learning/Prior Thinking: Students will know about general areas of countries and continents. Students will have also done a visual thinking strategy prior to class.
LESSON IMPLEMENTATION Focus/Purpose Statement Students will use visual thinking strategies to connect what they know about masks to help them make an educated guess about the new masks. Procedure VTS on Masks: PowerPoint on masks from around the world. o Africa Plank Mask (Burkina Faso) o Asia Ko-Jo (Japan) Rangda (Indonesia) o North America Yupik (Western Alaska) Aztec mask (Mexico) o South America Tapirap (Brazil) o Europe Horse Riders Mask (Netherlands) VTS on two images Finish coloring screen prints
