Predictions
An inference is a logical conclusion based on details and evidence.
Predicting is the process of gathering information from the text and
combining it with your knowledge to guess what might happen.

Inferences tell why something has happened while predicting tells what will
happen.

• chocolate on face
• smile/ornery look
• looking down at something

Inferences
• boy dove headfirst into chocolate cake
• boy ate a melted chocolate bar

Predictions
• The child will get in trouble for ruining the cake.
• Everyone will laugh and ohh and ahh at the cuteness of the little kid.

• destroyed building
• debris all over the ground
• wet pavement

Inferences
• very heavy rains came through the town
• a hurricane hit this region
• a thunderstorm/tornado hit this region

Predictions
• People will donate time and items to help rebuild this town.
