Army Hosts Community Briefing at Makua Military Reservation

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS – The 25th Infantry Division (Light) and U.S. Army, Hawaii,

will conduct a community briefing on the recent fire at Makua Military Reservation from 9 a.m.

until noon, Sunday, Aug. 3.

The briefing will take place at Makua Military Reservation.

The briefing will begin with a short introduction and brief presentations on the purpose of the

prescribed burn, the extensive planning and coordination conducted in preparation for the burn,

an outline of events the day the burn was started, actions after the fire spread beyond the

prescribed area, an assessment of the damage cause to threatened and endangered species and

their habitat and information on cultural assets in the valley.

The Army’s intent is to disseminate the information about the fire as quickly as possible. For

those who will not be able to attend the meeting, we will prepare the information that was briefed

Sunday in facts sheet format. We will disseminate the facts sheet at the Neighborhood Board

meeting on Aug. 5, and will post it to our web site. Additionally, we will submit a press release to

the local media outlets that contains the information from our facts sheet.

For personal safety, guests are asked to wear closed-toe shoes. It is also recommended that

guests wear hats and sunscreen.
