POHAKULOA TRAINING AREA, HAWAII – Seven firefighters from
Pohakuloa Training area helped local firefighters contain and extinguish a
grass fire along Saddle Road yesterday morning.
The quick response of firefighters from PTA, the Waiki’i Volunteer Fire
Department and the Hawaii County Fire Department limited the fire to
about two acres on both sides of Saddle Road.
In addition to the firefighters, PTA provided a HMMWV, fire engine, a 3,300-
gallon tanker and an ambulance. PTA firefighters remained on scene for
about two hours.
Additionally, a 5,000-gallon water tanker that was en route to PTA
stopped and provided water for the firefighters on scene. The tanker,
driven by Gary Tachera, is owned by Oahu Tree Experts, Inc.
PTA has provided police, fire or ambulance support for more than 50
