AmeriCorps Position Announcement

POSITION: Education Liaison (Part Time Opening Only) OVERVIEW:
AmeriCorps is a community service program funded by the government and participating community agencies, including the Sacramento Children’s Home. The purpose of AmeriCorps is to help communities meet specified needs in their area by recruiting and training individuals willing to devote at least one year to service. The Sacramento Children’s Home is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to serve through AmeriCorps as an Education Liaison. To offset the cost of living, AmeriCorps provides a living allowance or monthly stipends for the duration of service. The service terms monthly stipends total to the amount of $7,425. After successful completion of 900 hours of service, AmeriCorps members are eligible for an additional education award of $2,775 which can be used for tuition, student loans, books, etc. Additional benefits during service period include child care reimbursement and medical and dental benefits. The typical hours of service are Monday-Friday between 2:00pm – 5:30pm, with some minor flexibility in the start time. This position requires a 12 month commitment, with the potential of being eligible for an additional year long term after the successful completion of the first term. The Education Liaison is responsible for providing a comprehensive program that has been developed for the foster youth students who live in our level 12 Residential facility. This position is responsible tutoring students on an individual and small group basis based on the academic plan. This position comes in contact with confidential information and as such must maintain the program and agency’s standard of strict confidentiality. Duties include, but are not limited to:  Provide after school tutoring support.  Work closely with Cottage Facilitators in: school enrollment, school advocacy and support for residents.  Attend mandated AmeriCorps trainings.

   One year classroom experience, working directly with youth is highly preferred. A high school diploma or GED is required. Applicants must be at least 21 year old.
