In 2013 Little Burgundy has something for everyone. made entirely out of industrial waste. here’s the Cliff Notes: University of Oregon track athlete Phil Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman joined forces to import and distribute running shoes from Japan. But Bowerman had been tinkering around with his own design ideas for years. Nike Shox surfaced in 2001. and 2008 saw the trash talk shoe. With their now indelible swoosh logo created by a fellow U of O student. proving that a pair of Nike’s really can make you jump a little higher. streamlined and slick. and Knight sold them from the back of his Plymouth. and produce The Next Big Thing while most sportswear brands are still bent over tying their laces.
The company stays at the top of its game by constantly striving to conceive. Nike’s been slaying the competition. 72 for these silhouettes
. And that was just the beginning. The inspiration? A waffle iron. and by 1972 the pair were ready to start manufacturing their own. a current fave – neoprene and mesh. And the kicker? A gorgeous sneaker wedge (A.

old world artisanship and detailed construction of higher end fashion accessories. how much of your process involves drawing or working with your hands? Is that important to you?
. they’ve always stayed focused on their primary goal: creating fun and beautifully handcrafted sunglasses. but unfortunately this is true. artisans that for the past centuries have been mastering many arts. We dig through acetate colours and patterns. it’s much more interesting to experience something in real life rather than be sitting in front of your computer day and night.P. and that goes back to you doing things the old way. vivacious styling of street wear labels with the same loving.
SUPER makes a point of letting people know your sunglasses are handmade in Italy. Pretty soon SUPER found themselves doing high-profile collaborations with the likes of Kanye West. learning. Nowadays a lot of the research is done at the computer. and celebrating our successes together.
In general much of the design process has become computer-based. and some of our prototypes are still entirely done by hand. Elton John and French prêt-à-porter label A. He wanted to combine the fun. It makes us proud to work with Italian companies. touching.super. first surveyed the vast landscape of eyewear designs on the market. But regardless of their sudden success. We Italians like to complain and say “siamo un paese di vecchi” (literally: “this is a country of old people”). work on the materials until we obtain a certain touch to them. helping each other out in the hard times.futur (also known as SUPER). We joke around about it. bright. but we actually don’t use them as much as one would assume.30

By all counts he succeeded and the brand took off. work on photographs or illustrations we would like to simulate or print on the sunglasses…even the selection of lenses is a very hands-on and creative process. he knew something was missing. Little Burgundy recently caught up with one of their designers to talk about their process. We feel lucky to have the opportunity to make something we love in one of the countries that have a leading knowledge in the field. Besides.

The computer plays an important role. Some of the factories we work with don’t even have an email.
Making eyewear has been a big part of Italy’s industry for a long time. But a big side of it still lies in first-hand experiences: travelling. founder of Italian-based company retro. reading.

It is all very emblematic of our city.
We source and manufacture all of our products 100% in Spain. You have retirees who spend winter days sitting in the sun playing dominoes and taking quick dips in the Mediterranean.
How do you take a lively and fun culture such as the Barceloneta’s and turn it into a shoe?

cultured kicks straight off the coast of spain
Inspired by the incredible people who flock to the maritime district of Barcelona and the creativity and uniqueness they bring with them. beige with khaki. We also use primarily natural blend materials and we only use vulcanized and rubber soles. the Managing Director of the brand about what makes a shoe like this so engrained into the Spanish beachside lifestyle. urban-beach style. which as a bi-product helps to bring much needed work to the country. trimmings and laces of the shoes. the Maians brand (and the people behind it) is a legacy of the culture and vibrancy of their community. indigo. we build innovative designs into these pre-existing moulds.sourcing local materials for production and housing the shoes in reusable packaging.
The company seems to be very eco-conscious . Completely handmade in Spain and blessed with strawberry-scented soles.
What textures and colours can we expect from the Spring/Summer 2013 collection? This season’s collection stems from a veritable melting pot of contrasts. Maians shoes are a trademark of the laidback.
A. colours. All of our shoe moulds are recycled.
It is so rare to find shoes made by hand in today’s market. We spoke to Chad Weidmar. It is important to our company because we believe that by maintaining the integrity of this process and keeping all of the elements produced locally we are creating a sustainable model and a quality product. smells and sounds. textures. While you also have the younger generation hanging out at local bars and cafés. Just like the pristine new buildings side-by-side with run-down houses. We are very proud of the workmanship of our shoemakers and their generations of experience. The shoes are handcrafted locally in Spain by the original "zapatilleros" who have shared the knowledge of creating these iconic walking shoes for nearly a century.
. Our factories are the pioneers in this type of shoemaking and it is a very artisanal process. It encapsulates one of the key characteristics of Maians: mixing traditional values with new trends. These contrasts are reflected in the materials. mustard and blue. The colour tone also reflects the Barceloneta buildings. grey and brown. Reviving "old" materials to give them a new lease of life has become a trademark in designing our modern shoes. as well as flashes of teak. Tell me why this is so important to the Maians brand? Vulcanized shoemaking has its roots in the Rioja region of Spain.

This is called a glide. A wobbly table screams. even floor.
SLICE IT! CLEAN IT! Take the cork and slice it with a sharp knife so that the piece of cork is the same width as the distance between the legs. go to the hardware store and buy a new one. Wine is a product made from fermented grapes. Clean the foot of the leg with a brush or a cloth. do not trust any of it under any circumstance. A cork is the thing that plugs up a wine bottle. Your table is fixed now (probably. you lazy sot!
OBTAIN A CORK If the wobble is coming from a shorter leg. Sometimes the legs will have a round plastic thinger on the bottom. we must fix the wobbly table! Here’s how.62
