1. Bag Bath a. Warmed the package contents in a microwave following package directions. b. Used a single towel for each general body part cleansed. Followed the same order of cleansing as in the total or partial bed bath. c. Allowed the skin to air dry for 30 seconds. Lightly covered patient with a bath towel to prevent chilling. d. Used an extra bag bath if necessary or conventional wash cloths, soap, and water, and towels for excessive soiling. 2. Tub Bath or Shower a. Considered patients condition and reviewed medical orders. b. Scheduled use of shower or tub. c. Cleaned tub or shower according to agency policy; provided rubber bath mat or disposable mat to prevent slipping. d. Arranged all hygienic aids, toilet items, and linen within reach of patient. e. Assisted patient into tub or shower. f. Placed Occupied sign on bathroom door. g. Filled tub halfway, adjusted water temperature, and instructed patient on use of faucets. If patient was taking a shower, turned shower on and adjusted water temperature before patient entered shower stall. h. Used shower seat or chair, if necessary. i. Instructed patient on use of safety bars and cautioned patient against use of bath oil in tub water. j. Cautioned patient against remaining in tub for longer than 20 minutes and checked on patient every 5 minutes. k. Returned to bathroom when patient signaled, and knocked before entering.
