Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later and it was heard that He was at home. So
many people came to where He was that it was filled to capacity , even to
the door. Jesus spoke the Word of God to them.

A group of people came, four of whom were carrying a man who couldn’t walk, a
paralytic. Since they could not get into the house they went up to the roof and made a
hole through it. They lowered the man on his mat through the opening they had made.
Jesus knew that the men believed that He could heal the paralytic, and He spoke to the
paralytic saying, “your sins are forgiven.”

But there were religious teachers sitting there, thinking to

themselves, “Who does He think He is, talking like that? God? Only God can forgive
sins!” Jesus immediately knew what they were thinking. He said to them, “Why is this
so difficult for you to believe ? What do you think is easier to say, ‘your
sins are forgiven’ or to say ‘get up, pick up your mat and walk’? I’ll give you proof so
that you’ll know that I, the Son of Man ha ve authority on earth to forgive sins.’
Jesus turned to the paralytic and said, “You, get up, pick up your mat and go home.” He
immediately got up, picked up his mat and left. Everyone saw what happened and were
amazed. They glorified God saying, “We’ve never seen anything like this.”
