During the October 8, 2013 Board of Education Meeting, Dr.

Mark Toback, Superintendent of Schools, presented the results of the 2012-2013 Electronic Violence and Vandalism Reporting System (EVVRS) data submission. The EVVRS is a required report that is presented every year to the public and includes information about serious incidents of misconduct in district school buildings and sometimes outside of school. The report shows a significant drop in the number of incidents over five years. A new category that is included in the reporting involves HIB (Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying) amounted to 12 incidents. The chart below represents comparable incidents reported in the prior years. If you add in the HIB, the results are the same for the prior year (70). A variety of initiatives to improve school climate, as well as other efforts to improve security, such as the installation of security cameras, are making a difference for our students and teachers. Also noteworthy is the fact that the reductions in EVVRS incidents were achieved while reducing the usage of student suspensions.
