ca While I have never taught a student with Down Syndrome, a friend just gave birth to a little boy with Down Syndrome and I also have a family member and an old roommates sibling who had trisomy 21. The purpose of the website is to provide information, advocacy and education about Down Syndrome through the prenatal, early childhood, school years, adulthood and retirement stages of life. Its mission is to empower Canadians with Down syndrome and their families. The website contains a diverse range of information for example, general information about Down syndrome, resources for new parents and teachers, events and conferences happening throughout Canada and blogs written by VATTA (Voices at the Table Advocacy Committee) which is composed of a group of adults with Down Syndrome whos aim is to bring about equitable opportunities for all Canadians. The author of the site is the Canadian Down Syndrome Society, a registered Canadian charity. The site does not contain any outside advertising but has an online store that sells resource packages, calendars and merchandise. Some of the products are available through giving a donation. The site does not appear to show any bias and is intended to provide a vast amount of information for parents of children with Down Syndrome. The website could offer support within the home for children with Down Syndrome as it provides the following PFD resources: -Registered education savings plans -Stubborn Behaviour -Stop Running by Building Skiils: Behaviour Approach -Toilet Training children with Down syndrome It may help the child at school by providing resources such as: -Teaching Children with Down syndrome -Transition Planning for students with Down syndrome -Accommodations checklist for students with Down syndrome Finally, it may help provide support in the community through the national advocacy campaign and the link to various community support groups.
