TREE WATERTOWN FALL TREE PLANTING PROJECT
On Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 9:00 a.m., Tree Watertown, the City's Street Tree Advisory Board, will be conducting its 12th annual fall tree planting project on the grounds of Ohio Elementary. The project will involve the planting of 10 trees and is a collaboration of several organizations that are working together to improve the community. The Northern New York Community Foundation has awarded the City of Watertown a $2,500 grant from the Carolyn Whitney Tree Planting Fund to pay for the purchase of the trees and supplies for the project. The City Department of Public Works has pre-dug the tree planting holes and volunteers from Tree Watertown will be joined by Master Gardeners from Cornell Cooperative Extension and students, parents and staff from Ohio Elementary to plant the trees on Saturday. The project will beautify the school grounds while furthering the goals of Tree Watertown to increase the tree canopy in the City and to educate the community about the benefits of planting trees. The volunteer planting on Saturday will conclude a two-day tree planting effort in the City. On Friday, November 1, All Seasons Landscaping and Garden Center will be planting 15 trees for the City at various locations. The fall planting has become an annual project for Tree Watertown and supplements other spring tree planting efforts in the City. Trees planted during any season improve the community’s quality of life, provide beauty and shade for our neighborhoods, schools and p arks and help clean the air by filtering pollution and producing oxygen. Tree Watertown invites anyone who is interested to join us at 9:00 a.m. at Ohio Elementary on Ohio Street to help plant the trees. ###
