DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY HEADQUARTERS, V CORPS. UNIT 29355 ‘APO AE 09014 REPLY TO ATTENTION OF 8 August 2007 Soldiers, Leaders, and Civilians of the Victory Corps: Since January 2007, I have had the tremendous honor and privilege of commanding our Army's only forward deployed Corps. This has been a truly rewarding and humbling experience, with opportunities and challenges that come once in a lifetime. The Chief of Staff of our Army has now summoned me to serve as our Army’s G3. I know this transition weighs heavily on many of us in this great organization, as we have just begun to set the conditions for significant change in the Corps. However, | am confident I can take the leadership experiences I have, and the many lessons I have learned in the great Victory Corps and use them to help positively influence the Army from the Pentagon. From the woodlands of Grafenwoehr and desert of Iraq to the green hills of Heidelberg, the Victory Corps has accomplished in an outstanding manner, every mission assigned. V Corps units remain deployed to the warfight in Iraq and are hard at work to contain a persistent insurgency, conduct a massive rebuilding effort, and pave the way for democracy in Iraq. Victory Corps Soldiers continue to distinguish themselves by their bravery in combat, and their dedication to duty. The performance and sacrifices of Victory Corps Soldiers and civilians are without equal, and will be forever recorded. ‘The lion’s share of the credit for V Corps’ outstanding achievements in Iraq and in tie Central Region belongs to you. You are extremely well disciplined, fearless, and mentally and physically prepared for any ‘contingency. You have proven many times that you are willing to make any sacrifice to accomplish the iission, The loyal support of your Families has been indispensable. Each and every Soldier and civilian of the Victory Comps, as Ihave seen repeatedly, is dedicated to the highest level of professionalism and proficiency. I encourage each and every one of you to continue to live the Army values each day, on and off the battlefield, and embrace the Warrior Ethos. I have no doubt that Victory Corps Soldiers will continue to place the mission first, never accept defeat, never quit, and never leave a fallen comrade ‘We have done a great job in building a new cohesive, competent, and combat-ready V Corps team. Asa ‘team, You are prepared to again enter the warfight if directed, and will continue to reach ever greater heights as the Corps merges with United States Army Europe to become Seventh Army. I know that you will provide the same enormous energy to accomplishing our mission for LTG Hunzeker, as you have during my tenure in command. The transition of command will be seamless. Lam very proud of each and every one of you, and of the Victory Corps as a whole. Our successes have been a direct result of your unmatched loyalty, selfless service, courage, competence, and sacrifices. It has been my honor and privilege to have been your Commanding General. Dee and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts as I relinquish command of the Vietory Corps. We will depart with mixed emotions as we leave this wonderful team, May God bless all of you. VICTORY!
