V CORPS SOLDIERS, IRAQI FORCES RESPOND TO CAR

BOMB ATTACKS ON TANK, GAS STATION
Multi-National Division Baghdad release

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Five Iraqi civilians were killed and 26 injured in an attack on a

south Baghdad gas station June 18.

The attack came just moments after a tank belonging to V Corps' Company C, 1st

Battalion, 18th Infantry encountered a car bomb detonated in an abandoned car as

the armored vehicle passed by. No injuries or damage resulted from the attack, and

the tank returned to camp without incident.

Soldiers of the 1-18th and Iraqi National Police responded to the late-morning

bombings, and Iraqi emergency services crews extinguished fires that engulfed three

civilian vehicles set ablaze by the explosions.

Explosive ordnance disposal units destroyed unexploded munitions at the site

following the attack.

Both incidents are under investigation.
