‘BLUE SPADER’ SOLDIERS KILL THREE INSURGENTS

FOLLOWING BOMB ATTACK IN ADHAMIYAH
Multi-National Division – Baghdad release

CAMP TAJI, Iraq -- V Corps Soldiers killed three insurgents following an improvised

explosive device attack in eastern Baghdad's Adhamiyah District July 1.

The roadside bomb killed an Iraqi citizen near the Abu Hanifa Mosque, but no U.S.

forces were injured.

Following the attack, elements of the corps' 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry -- the "Blue

Spaders" -- operating in east Baghdad observed the insurgents running into an

abandoned building. The Soldiers engaged and killed the insurgents.

The unit then identified a second IED on the same road, which was safely destroyed

by an explosive ordnance disposal team in a controlled detonation.

"Despite these types of attacks the 'Blue Spaders' are currently in the area and

working with Iraqi security forces and the government of Iraq to protect the Iraqi

people from the reckless terror of insurgents," said Lt. Col. David Oclander, the

executive officer of the 82nd Airborne Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
The 1-26th, part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, is currently

working with the 82nd.
