Liting Tao Kristen Foster CO 150.403 20 October, 2013 Comparing iPhone with Android Smartphone: An Annotated Bibliography Recently I am exploring the two main types of smartphone (iPhone and Android smartphone) to find out which is better for most of the customers. Nowadays, smartphones have increasingly occupied the cellphone market. Meanwhile, the development of the two main operating systems, iOS and Android, puzzling customers in the process of finding which one better meets their demands. I am keen on watching relevant news and just a month ago, Apple released its latest smartphones which brought a heated debate between iPhone and Android smatphone. I was most interested with a news report that hundreds of Apple fans were queueing for the new devices outside an Apple store before Apples launch event, many of them even brought tents and had slept there for a few nights. I own an Android smartphone as well as an iPad, personally I prefer the Android system for its easy operation. Therefore I am surprised to see so many rabid Apple fans, wondering how Apple has the magic to attract so many followers. My research question is: iPhone vs. Android smartphone, which is the better choice for smart phone users? The research included in this annotated bibliography was conducted between October 3rd, 2013 and October 17th, 2013.Here are four resources, one of which is

published in peer-reviewed journal, two of which are comments from websites, and one that is a blog from computerworld.com, comparing iPhone with Android devices in speed and responsiveness tests.

Alang, Navneet. "Bored by the iPhone 5." Canadian Business 85.16 (2012): 21. Academic Search Premier. Web. 22 Oct. 2013. This op-ed was published in a business magazine. The writer argues that nowadays smartphones from companies such as Apple and Google are almost the same. He analyzes the current situation as well as makes prediction for the future of the mobile device market. According to the author, the upgrades in mobile devices reflect a mature market. The next focus would belocking consumers into an ecosystem of content and services. He uses Amazons CEOs words to support his view. The writer then points out that sameness would cause smartphone risk, therefore the next step should be follow this two clues: how products interact that will contribute to better performance; sell media and services to the users.

Several factors contribute to the credibility of this source. First, it is published in a current affair magazine in 2012, which makes it quite current. Secondly, the author quotes words from two CEOs (Tim Cook and Jeff Bezos) to support his ideas about the tendency of mobile devices. One limitation is some comments like the best these new products deserved was an unimpressed yawn seem subjective to some extent.

This source greatly answers my question about what is the current competitive situation in smartphone market and what is the tendency of new products. The stakeholder includes the main companies like Apple, Google and Microsoft.

Coldewey, Devin. Android vs. iOS: The Race has Never been Closer. NBC News.com.18 September 2013. Web. 20 October 2013. In this review essay, the author states that as Apple releasing iOS 7 and its latest iPhone, the choice between iOS and Android has never been so hard because now they have more in common. He compares the two systems from various aspects with pictures to directly show the differences. As Apples new system, iOS7 refines several features that were pioneered by Android, such as quick settings and multitasking switching. Coldway appreciates apples camera design, where Android are competent but not yet exceptional. On the other side, however, Android is pretty handy for someone who uses local media. At last, the writer concludes that Android's user experience is very customizable, where iOS 7 is not. That is really the main difference between the two systems.

This article is credible because it was published on September of 2013, so it is based on the latest version of the two systems. It appears under the technology section on NBC News.

Besides, the author contains concrete comparison and neutral attitude in his article. One limitation is that it needs more detailed descriptionto some vital features.

enhances its credibility. However, he needs to consider multiple sides before giving shopping advice.

I learned a lot of new things from this article, I heard that even old iPhones run faster than some new Android devices and now I have the explanations. It is essential to test the internal functions rather than merely judge from the phones display screen.
