Math- 4th Grade Division

Monday, November 18th, 2013

Standards: 4.NBT.B.6 Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models. Goals/Objectives: Through the use of math stations, students will review their knowledge of division and be prepared to pass the division unit test the following day.

Materials Needed: Computers Smart Board Jeopardy game (included in resources) Math tile game Garden Story problem sheet (included in resources) Individual white boards Story problem for AG students (included in resources)

Procedures: Students will be grouped based on their ability level and will work in different math stations to review their knowledge of division. There will be 5 stations, 10 minutes for each station. Station 1: Computers- students will bring their math journals and go onto http://www.quia.com/mathjourney.cgi and use their math journals to solve various division problems. If they get the problem right, they get to travel around the world. If they get it wrong, they miss their flight. Station 2: Jeopardy on the Smart Board- Students will play jeopardy on the smart board. Every question is related to division. Station 3: Division math tiles game: students will play with the division math tiles game. They have played this before and know how to do it. It requires them to choose the right numbers in order to come out with the end given quotient. Station 4: Practice with Mrs. Morris: For this station students will be practicing division on the white boards with the teacher. The teacher will have 3-4 digit dividends and 1-digit divisors in the problems with and without remainders. For the AG group of students, there will be a multistep word problem for them to solve. Station 5: Garden: Students will work on the garden story problem sheet that is included in the appendix. Students will work with Mrs. Roll for this station

Assessment: Observation from Mrs. Roll and Mrs. Morris. This is a review day to prepare students for the final assessment on division that they will take on Tuesday.

Differentiation: Students are grouped by their academic level in math. Problems will vary in the white boards station with Mrs. Morris based on their level. AG students are provided with a multi-step, higher level word problem to solve since they already understand how to do basic division.

Tuesday: Test will be given. This will take the entire math block.
